I have Photomatix but can't get results like that lol

The cs4 plugin straight out of photoshop can achieve it usually. Even with just one pic at one exposure, you can tone map it inside cs4 and it can look like that.

it's the same. the sliders do the same thing. just spend some time on it as there's a bit of a learning curve. but technically the above post was cheating haha since it was only one exposure at no bracketing.

Adobe Lightroom2 has a lot of (downloadable) presets that can make HDR-like images out of a single photo in just a click. Not always the best result, but with a little tweaking you can make what you want.

I forgot how much I love photographing horses (and how much of a pain they are LOL)

Pretty good man. I wish there was less room between the back bumper and right frame of the picture though so that there is more room for the front bumper.

I suggest maybe using fill-flash since you were shooting into the high bright harsh sun on them..the shadows on the darker horse have too much contrast. Oh ya..your white balance could use some adjusting. Maybe a warmer tone?

You can use the high speed sync function on your flash so you can go higher than 1/250 or 1/500 on your cam's sync speed to get the results you want.

I'd shoot either early morning or late afternoon so that you have more cooperative lighting.

Yeah, unfortunately I am also at the whim of their schedules.. 99% of the time they are only available for photos around high noon!

I'll look into one of those... the problem arises with anything incredibly reflective/flashy that could spook the horse(s). They think it'll eat them! LOL.

try something large and white then. lol

The solution could be as easy as a simple curves adjustment.

I had a little more fun with it... hope you don't mind. Notice how detail is recovered from the dark areas of the horse, but not sacrificed in the light areas...

I agree. The blacks have a blue tinge.
