1. When I test drove a mazda6 last summer the rpm stayed around 3000 at hwy speeds. The other 4 cyl cars I tried all dropped to the 2000 range when up to speed. How is the cx-7 rpm at 65/70 mph ?

2. What range of real world mpg can I expect ? I drive 50/50 and usually get better mileage than most. I get 30mpg (hwy) with a 6cyl 2005 accord which is rated at 29 hwy. I understand that the epa has revised the testing so cars the ratings are lower than the were in the past.

3. How sluggish is the new 4cyl, is it descent when passing on the highway ?

haven't seen too many people posting with the 2.5 yet. i'm assuming we won't get that many on here, since the boards tend to bring in people wanting more power.

the epa ratings are more realistic of americans driving habits. in our 08 awd cx7, we get fairly crappy mileage at about 18-20mpg average

I’d say that it’s decent. It gets up to speed easily enough for entering freeways, and can pass when needed. This is my first small engine in 30 yrs, last 4 cylinder that I had was ’80 Datsun. My other two current vehicles have substantially stronger engines, and my daily driver prior to getting this 2.5 CX-7, is a 5.4 F-150. Power to pass was definitely a concern when I bought this car, but so was gas mileage!! Now I can save my truck for towing my boat and weekend trips to Home Depot, and save my money with decent gas mileage. It’ll cruise easily at 70-80. Don’t know exactly what my mileage is, but I’m spending half what I was when commuting with my F150.

Ill have to agree with TOW II.

I also have a CX 7 with the 2.5L it has plenty of power for general driving, passing, getting on the freeway, etc. And the gas mileage is better than I expected.

If your looking for something to race with you probably wont like the non-turbo version.

So far I love mine!
