Awfully hard to beat those Shinka man. That's the way I would go too.

The OEM silver just looks plain in comparison but they still look nice on the car.

Good choice IMO.

Revived.

So i dropped the wheels off at LPC last Friday. Quite the experience. The shop doesnt look like much, actually it looks like a run down barn. But they are in the process of renovating the place. Color i chose was called "ultra black chrome" 3 step process - clear over black over chrome. came out to 105 per wheel.

Some issues i had - caps cant be powdercoated since theyre plastic and would melt in the oven. So i ordered metal caps that i can glue over the OEM caps.

As for the color. If the light hits your eyes direct its almost the same as OEM color. but the shadow effect is magnified 1000x. If theres no light hitting a part of the wheel, it almost looks black. The color also has a nice flake to it. I will take pics once they are on the car. I will be wrapping them in 245/40 direzza starspecs.

He also does airbrushing. heres a pic of a subie intake manifold and air tank for an air ride suspension he was working on.. enjoy.

Cool. Definitely want to see shots in a variety of lighting environments. I might consider going this route with my wheels next year.

Black chrome is essentially a very dark gunmetal/graphite/anthracite. Pretty close to the RX-8 R3 color IMO.

he had some evoX wheels that were being done the same color, so thats what made me pick it. the wheels, indoors are about the same shade as R3, with much more light/shade effect. he rolled the wheel across an open doorway and they popped and went back to dark on the other side of the door. looked really good leaning up against the MGM too....

UPDATE: wheels wont be ready till mid next week :(

Patience my friend. I waited three months for mine :)

Here's some examples from another powder coating company of black chrome:
