Protege 5 roof rack?

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I just bought a Protege5 '02 car and love it. Only problem is I want to put a roof rack on it but can't find them anywhere to buy, and I haven't called the dealership yet.

I have the runner's with the caps on them, I'm just looking for the cross bar parts that go across the car. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Anyone know where I can buy those?

A few people on here are selling theirs.. I would sell mine + trade for the filler panels and caps but just haven't got around to mentioning it lol.

Brand new OEM roof rack crossbars are in the $700 range so I would start checking junkyards and craigslist/ebay.

I just wanted to throw the following out there in case you ride bikes. If you're looking to put bicycle mounting rails on the rack, you may want to just get an aftermarket rack. With the stock rack, any fork mount rail you put on it in the forward mounted position with a 700c wheel on the bike will interfere with the spoiler when the hatch is opened. I have my SportRack rail mounted backward because of this. It looks goofy till you get used to it. I've got a bike up there pretty often so having the tire hitting the spoiler repeatedly can be bothersome.

just buying a thule rack set up is much better than the oem. the thule will be much sturdier than the oem and able to handle more weight. plus like Rage87 said, when you put trays on the oem rack, they tray will hit the hatch, a thule rack that mounts more towards the front of the car doesnt have that problem.

Anyone know where I can find the filler caps at? I want to keep my roof rack since I use it. Be nice to take it off for long trips.

you might consider looking up used Yakima/Thule racks on Craigslist. I'm gonna get one this week with a Raptor bike rack for $75 including fairing and Q towers. The total package brand new would be like $500

i would recommend going to a Yakima roof rack! i sell them at my bike shop and you can customize any of their racks to fit your car.. if u go to their site they have a "select ur vehicle" type thing and you can preview all the racks that will fit when u enter the info. I've had customers carry up to 3 downhill mountain bikes with a Yakima and its sturdy as hell. prives vary depending on rack of course so check them out! i dunno if u can get a home delivery by them or if u gotta go through a yakima dealer. GL!

Anybody know how to take off the runners? I don't have the crossbars either and I'm trying to install the Thule roof rack I found on craigslist..
