What have you done to your Mazda6 today?

Well, just so you know, you're effectively eliminating your suspension travel with those springs.
HA! Told you....did you use the words "****, s***, damn it" as much as I did?(cabpatch)
and on a side note, I just bought some lowering springs from Marksp6!
probably more considering we ran out of daylight and it was about 3 degrees outside

I did some cleaning under the hood... before and after:
Spritzed with Simple Green and left a few minutes, then hosed down (including the underside of the hood). Then I spritzed again (a little more liberally) with Simonize All Purpose Cleaner. I think it's more gentle than the SG and has a nice orangey smell. Hosed down again, ran the engine for a few minutes and took a short drive around the block to help dry.
Then I wiped down any still damp or smudgy areas and hit the plastics with some Back to Black. There are a few pieces with scratches or marks that still won't come out, but it still looks a lot better. Final step was to wipe down the plastic and some hoses with 303 Protectant.

I can definitely say I neglect under the hood. I've owned the car a year now and have never cleaned under the hood. It still looks pretty good, surprisingly enough.
@Steve - is that a positive thing or negative thing? It's kinda hard to tell if you're being sarcastic or not 
@OJ - I've never done a under the hood wash before. Is there anything I need to do before hand in order to protect some vital engine parts from getting damaged?

I'm being serious. I spent a lot of time reading up on springs for our cars before buying my H&Rs, and I can see why there's only a few sets of springs offered for the MS6 specifically. Check out the spring sticky in the suspension sub-forum for details. So, it's a negative thing. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I can confirm Steve's findings as well. I researched this extinsively before buying and double checked his posting and couldn't agree more.

yeah definetly, why cant everyone just stick to suspension thats made for this car, why cut corners to save a few bucks, in the end all your doing is paying more then what you would have paid if you had done it right in the first place.
note: powdercoating was suppose to be done today, got a call this morning saying it wasent going to be done till monday morning, so im kinda bummed out about that but the pics i have of whats done looks sweet!!!!!!

You can use a hose, just don't power wash your motor. Don't spray sensors directly, and use as little water as you can to get the job done. You don't wanna go balls deep on your engine bay with a 4500psi power washer.

I've done it both ways, but I prefer to do it warm, not hot. Reason being I don't like the cleaner to dry up and evaporate if I can avoid it.
I usually use some diluted SG or some other sort of APC (all purpose cleaner). A stiff bristled brush and a rag take care of most everything under the hood, then drive it to dry.
