Looking for dealer alternative for servicing 07 MAZDASPEED3

MazdaSpeed3 07
Hello all,

After almost 4 years without a CEL going off (but of course! I was under warranty so why would it turn on?), it finally went on. I didn't want to take it to the dealer for obvious reasons, so I was advised to take it to an Autozone to get my CEL code for the problem.

It turns out Autozone doesn't do that anymore, well at least in CA they don't. So I ended up buying a code reader from autozone called "actron pocketscan CP9125" for about $65 bucks and found out that I have an EVAP Emmission Control System Leak (Large).

So I'd like to know if anyone here knows of any good, reliable, trustworthy shops in the Southern California area (near Whittier, CA). Please let me know of the prices, customer service, speediness in completing most jobs, cleanliness of shop, etc..

Thanks everyone for your help.

The EVAP systems are basically a breathing apparatus running the length of the car to the gas tank, taking evaporated fuel and making use of it via normal combustion if I'm not mistaken. My old BMW ran just fine and probably would indefinitely with the same issue, however you do likely have a leak somewhere in that system. It can add then un-metered air into the motor causing all kinds of performance issues.

Ya i never got mine fixed, probably $700+ job though. That is of course if you aren't willing or capable to do it yourself. (Again I wasn't)

....or your gas cap isn't screwed on tight......

You could have bought an aeroforce scan gauge or dashawk. You can get a scangauge for 150 bucks and they show all your engine parameters, read / clear cel's, and much more ... Too late I guess. Hope you get everything sorted out.

Yeah 9/10 it's the gas cap. Also if it's not, it's an emissions system so I would atleast ask if that would be covered under the federal emissions warranty.

Agreed, the gas cap is where I would start.

How many miles on the car?

Aren't emission controls warranted for a longer period of time than the standard 36K miles?
