New car in the stable

2003 Mazdaspeed Protege #1552
We picked up a 2003 Mazda 6S GT this weekend. To catch everyone up, Eli has continued to grow, which put us in a dilemna. He has outgrown his original car seat, but KY law requires that children remain rear facing for at least 1 year, so the RX8 and the GTO have both gone on the chopping block as neither will accomodate the larger rear facing seats on the market. The RX8 was the first to sell. With the cost associated with Eli (Daycare, diapers, wipes, formula, et al) we decided to try and ditch the car payments and go cheap.

Cindy's first attempt was a 2000 Acura TL which was a great buy, but she has been very unhappy with it being an automatic. She thought she could deal with it, but it was only a matter of time before she was going to snap, so we started shopping for a different car this week and ended up with our new 6. It is Steel Gray Metallic in color and is a 5 speed manual with the 3.0L Duratec. I have started picking on her as the car is a near perfect melding of the Silver RX8 she gave up, and the Black Ford Contour SVT she had prior the the RX8. It fits.

Here are a couple of quick pics. Click them for the high res versions.

If you know anyone who wants a GTO or an Acura TL, let me know. More cars to sell...

I'll pm you a link to some pics tonight. I hate to let go of the GTO, but maybe it will motivate me to get the FD rolling when I go back to daily driving something with less horsepower.

hey james, good to see you still around the mazda scene. love the color, love the car. enjoy it.

Thanks Ken. I'll probably be around the Mazda scene till the bucket has been kicked. I can't imagine a future where I don't have some kind of RX-?.

We need to try and come out. It is so easy to stay home with Eli. I'm sure we will make a couple this year, though the big one in April will be missed. I'm heading down to Deal's Gap for a national rotary meet.

Here are some pics of the FD. (you can click for full resolution if you desire)

FD progress is still going very slowly. Currently going through the new motor. It probably won't be on the road til next spring. We will see.

Also, the Mazda 6 has already left the stable. Cindy just couldn't make it in a sedan and Eli is forward facing now... so back to an RX8 we went. Sold the 6 on Friday and bought the 8 on Saturday. It is a 2004 GT in Winning Blue with the Sport Appearance (read "ground effects") package, Rotary accent package, and wing. Very pretty car and Cindy is happy happy happy again so yay! It made me start looking for a 2009 RX8 to replace the Hummer with, but I have my FD and we really need at least one vehicle with a lot of space to carry all of Eli's junk and my misc. parts in, so that was merely dreaming. I'll throw some pics up of the 8 a little later for anyone who cares.
