Ok, I'm probably an idiot. But I've read the owner's manual, my wife read the owner's manual, we tried playing with all the buttons...

How do you pause the CD that's playing?

We were listening to an audio book while on a long road trip (over 22 hours of driving total) and could not figure a way to pause the CD while having to do navigation, answer the phone etc.

There has to be a way.

TIA.

Its the button labeled "AUTO-M".
Bottom row of buttons on the radio between the volume and tuner knobs.
Last on on the right.

There is a pause symbol below that "AUTO-M" button. >||

I use the pause button on the steering wheel all the time but I've never had it pause a CD track. It's always kept playing with no audio. Maybe it's different between years? I've got a 2006.

Tried that. No love. Maybe the button is broken?

I just tried this on my own and it didn't work either.

So do I. I wonder what gives? My wife is using my 5 right now, but when she is back I'll double-check.

Did some more "playing" (pun intended) with the CD player this evening. There's two ways to pause a CD:
1.) Turn off the power to the CD player.
2.) Change to the radio or tape deck (if you have it)
Not pretty but at least it works.

I've had a number of aftermarket radios, including a Sony in my '99 Accord and a JVC in my '09 Mazda5, and this is the standard way to pause a CD or .mp3 file - switching the source.

For what it's worth, consider changing to aftermarket. You can have USB inputs, .mp3 capability off of CD-R (or USB), audio input (which you may already have), SD card capability, etc.

Okay, took longer to test and then to come and report, but here it is...

Some CDs pause, and others do not. I mostly play my own mixes in the car, and some of those pause, though some do not. I have no idea why. Perhaps the program used to burn the CDs? I can't remember which ones I've used in the past to burn which CDs. I took a couple of "store" bought one out to the car, and none of them paused.

The Auto-M button on my system doesn't pause, nor is there a II symbol.

Oh, we have considered aftermarket. And will probably upgrade to a DVD based nav system soon. But we're on a road trip now, and trying to listen to an audio book.

Thanks for all the help guys. I didn't think about switching the source. That will work fine.

Thanks again!
