Just to bump an old thread and not to clutter up dino's thread.
Oh well on the header, someone needs to build a proper N/A motor that actually includes a tuned header and intake mani. then maybe there would be more interest. But that includes alot of money if your not doing it yourself. Something I sure as hell don't have. I mean the WC cars weren't getting all there power from compression alone were they?

You are right.
To get the power you need a decent header, and a decent tunnel ram intake mani. Along with a rotating assembly that is STRONG, LIGHT and has LONG CONRODS to withstand the kind of RPMs needed to make the power fall in a reasonable VE range (north of 8000rpm). Then theres head work thats needed - and a bunch of supporting mods so it all doesn't go to s***.
Its not impossible, but its not a case of bolting on 2 or 3 parts and being done with it.

It's really depressing reading through this thread. Wish I had the money to match the ambition I had when this started. Between lower back injuries, and the bad economy, I've only worked about 6-8 months since this started. Hopefully 2010 will be better then the last 2 and maybe I'll actually get moving on this.

naws has always been natural its all on perception, but i figured it would be "cheating"
stop calling it naws. Its N2O. Or Nitrous Oxide. Not Naws, Noz, Nos, Naawwwz or any other innane childish thing you can come up with.
Also, its NOT natural aspiration. Its chemical supercharging. It always has been considered to be chemical supercharging. You are injecting a foreign gas into the intake charge with the sole purpose of increasing the O2 density in the charge to allow you to burn more fuel. Whilst it differs in operation from supercharing or turbocharging, the net result is EXACTLY THE SAME. Therefore it is not naturally aspirated, therefore it is banned from this race.
I believe these young dudes have turned the acronym NOS into a slang term, whether they know or not that the name Nitrous Oxide Systems is a company which has been around since WWII and was used in fighter planes. It is common these days due to "urban culture" which has also made it's way to the American suburban and rural younger generation, to turn more proper names into slang because it seems to sound cooler than actually saying the correct name itself. They might believe it sounds too "intellectual" or "nerdy," (to use an out of date term). What can we expect when we are all subject to such ridiculous names as "twitter", "Google," "wii," "Ipod," etc.

"NOS" is actually a brand name owned by Holley. The germans were using N2O on their fighters for high altitude. the "NOS" brand is much newer than that.
I don't mind calling it "NOS" - as the most popular/affordable of the big name nitrous kit providers it is most likely that those that put nitrous on a car will in fact use NOS. But I draw the line at "Nawz", coupled with the completely idiotic position that it is somehow an NA mod.

New Old Stock, used mostly in conjunction with carburetors and intake manifolds but other parts too.
My buddy I grew up with's dad worked for Holley for about 30 years retired around 1990, don't recall NOS being part of Holley then.
i looked and couldnt find a spot on date or year...i did find holley filed bankruptcy in 08 and 09 though

Unfortunately, the 'race' has slowed to a crawl now. There have been a bunch of people going the turbo route and not much interest in NA.
I am getting a dyno run in just over a week and I will see where I stand. Aiming for 140 whp on stock intake and manifold. Soon after the dyno, I will be fixing both of those
