Surprised by a Vibe!

Does anyone know for certain if there are any killer mod kits for the new Vibe GT?

All I know is that from a roll (10 mph) to legal highway speeds (in this case 65), I barely inched out on this guy. I was WOT and I am no 18 year old who just got his license. Something was up on his car....

dont they come with gm's ecotech? arent there turbo kits for that engine?

interesting. I know on one of the GTI forums, there's a guy with a built up corolla who's embarassing/surprising quite a few people and pretty sure the car is still NA. Maybe that's not surprising to some, but I was like dayum! It's one of the newer ones-XLR or whatever it's called.

Losing to a Vibe GT would be embarrassing. Thank you for upholding up the crown.(thumb)

its a toyota matrix under the sheet metal, very possible it has the TRD supercharger shared with the tC engine, but who knows, could be a full custom turbo, maybe he was spraying.. could be anything.

for the record, even if you don't break the speed limit, you can receive what is called an "unreasonable and imprudent speed" ticket. racing up to the street's legal speed limit is still STREET RACING.

The old vibes had the same archetecture as the Toyota Martix. Idk about model codes... but the Matrix XRS had a potent I4 with a "lift" feature similar to Honda's Vtec. The damn thing redlines at like 8,500 RPM. So if it was an I/H/E and tuned Vibe (with the XRS engine)... then he would give a stock MS3 a good run for it's money...

Just looked it up... the Vibe GT did come with this engine. So there you have it.

.

i was thinking that too but it depends on the year i guess. they didn't share the 2.4L engine until 2009 model year. every other one before that was a 1.8. but the trd kit for the 2.4 tC bumped power from 160 to 200 or something like that. not sure what a kit did for the vibe/matrix

but anthing is possible. maybe one day you'll get destroyed by a smart car and find out later it had a busa engine

Depends on your state laws, A cop tried to give me a ticket for accelerating too quickly on my bike saying it was reckless endangerment and I got a lawyer and fought it. The judge dropped it saying there was no law against accelerating too fast and that there wasn't sufficient evidence that I was endangering other lives.....

Pontiac was known for some "interesting" engines. Maybe it has a turbo-charged Solstice motor?

Consider the other side of the coin... Up to 65MPH you'd just be getting out of 2nd, right? Isn't your boost still limited? I think ya the vibe was quick, but its more likely the MS3 was slow.

I think you may be able to hit 60MPH while redlining in 2nd, but our engines tend to die off after 5500-5700. If I remember right, I'm pretty sure we should be shifting 2-3 at around 55MPH on a stock MS3.

the rents have a 2009 Vibe with the 1.8L, FWD, 4-speed auto, it is balls slow lol. Could the car in question be a Vibe GT w/ AWD and the 2.4l w/ 4speed auto? That's the only way I see it being "quick" because that is the most high powered (factory) setup.

My TRD s/c tC put down 230whp and 197lb-ft tq... and surprised quite a few people. It's a very under-rated kit for sure. For reference, a stock tC will usually put down around 140whp +/- 5whp.

Like I said, sure the vibes are quick, but it's more likely the MS3 was slow...

No the Pontiac Vibe is not a quick car at all. The MS3 is capable of running a 13.9-13.8 off the show room floor, while the Vibe would have problems breaking out of the mid 15's.

The most likely reason for the close race is, and sorry to say, the driver or the driver not giving a good description of said Vibe.

Stock for stock, it's Apples to Oranges.

Re-read this thread. How do you know which engine was in the Vibe to begin with?

I don't need to re-read this, I read it correctly, none of the Vibes are quick or fast, they are all slow... thus it doesn't matter which is being spoken of.

2003 Pontiac Vibe GT (0-60)7.3 (1/4)15.7 <-- has the venerable 2zz-ge under the hood, making 180hp

2009 Pontiac Vibe (0-60)8.1 (1/4)16.3 <--- has the 2.4 2az-fe, making 161hp

You can see where that's going... nowhere, quick.

(attention)

sure, you could make them quick, but unless the OP states that he believes the Vibe he raced was modified... were assuming it was stock. (friday)
