So everybody here in the DC are is treating this storm like the end of the world. I grew up in Montana so I'm laughing at the mayhem.

Still, it is snowing pretty hard out there. It took me an hour to dig Ophilia (my MS6) out of the snow. During that time it snowed another 2 or 3 inches.

Check it:

We got a little bit here in MI, but not enough to worry. I was hoping for 6-8" that would last.

Look at the bright side though, you have a car that's fun to drive in the snow. I'd find a big open parking lot and have at it!

We only got about 6 inches...I still have my summer tires on, so my car didn't budge. lol. Did you partake in the snowball fight that cause the officer to draw his gun? lol

s***.. in MD we got like 20" where im at.. still on summer tires.. they handle suprisingly well in the snow. i may hold off on winter tires until next year if the tires behave well all winter.. stack up some $$ and go mod crazy in march.

You're nuts man. I had the stock RE050A's for the first winter and it was downright scary. Get something else to drive on, you'll be amazed at what the car can do.

Went to my local Target last Sat and it was empty with 10-12 inches of snow piled up... Turned off the traction control and had at it... Got the snow whipped up pretty good could not see 2 inches in any direction for a while...Was tons of fun....

Not to mention the fact that the summer tires will be really brittle (read: easy to damage) in the cold temps due to the type of rubber used. Not really safe IMHO.

Exactly. You don't wanna have to try and stop quickly on summers, and don't drive on them for long. Same way you don't drive on winters above 50 deg.

Yep...I spent a whole summer on Bliziaks (sp?) and it was miserable. I though I was too busy to change them, and all I was doing that summer was commuting anyway. In retrospect it was kind of stupid, but at the time I remember being soooo tired and I just didn't care. The Bliziaks were ruined (the rears at least) so it definitely was not worth the trouble.

I used to love going in to the back of shopping center parking lots and having at it. Made me the snow driver that I am. Also once drove back on Gatorbacks w/o issue through one of those famous but rare mid Atlantic snow/ice storms. Only the hurried fools where sliding off of I-95 around me. It was white knuckle driving though and my longest drive back ever.

ok you guys win.. ordering blizzaks today or tomorrow from tire rack.. im thinking the LM-22 cuz their on clearance.. anyother suggestions on cheap good winter tires??

Just pay attention to the specs, our cars need an XL load-rated tire, and if you're looking for a speed rating, get something Z rated. A lot of winter tires don't match that.

I had looked at options, but I'm leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s.

well.. the LM-22 "Load Range" is XL. with speed rating V.. will that work?? im not sure how speed rating effects the tire.. i will be babying the car in the winter except for the parking lot fun.. but on roads it will not be driven hard in the winter.

I see they have them for $136 each on closeout, not a bad deal. I was searching for 225/40/18 and 225/45/18s instead of 215/45/18s.

yea i just searched the same size as the stock tires.. i figure they would fit the best.. i dont know much about tires tho. So Does V mean they are worse then Z rated tires.. and does that only effect higher speeds?

V rated tires are good up to 149mph, which is plenty for our cars. It's just a good habit to get something rated near the max speed. Although you'll never go there, there's an increased safety factor designed into the tire.

Then go for the Blizzaks man..and save $250 and have your tires pay for your gas for a couple months. (more like 2) lol.

I don't really need tires right now, otherwise I'd already have a set on order. I will, however, pick up a set next year if I still have the car.
