whats the max output of the stock headunit?

would the stock sub in the spare tirewheel work with a new headunit?

please give me suggestions on a headunit/speakers!

my limit is around 200 for both headunit and speakers. to be honest im impressed by the stock speakers. but im looking for more bass/power.

and i wish the speakers to be components cause i wish to use the stock tweeter location. plus any info would be great! like which speakers are direct drop in's and which speakers put out good bass without distorting

the 9885's pretty good. I picked up a 9887 for $200

P5's have stock tweeter locations??? Where?

I wouldn't recommend powering a set of components w/ a headunit.
Your stock sub should have a stock amp, I don't think its powered by the headunit. But I honestly don't know, because I drive a protege sedan

get some Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5" comps, and a nice cheap amplifier, eclipse ea4100 comes to mind, as well as sundown sax 50.4
upgrade to a cheaper used headunit

canadian p5 but you can see the tweeter right in the corner of the door.

well im not trying to do too much, then again im not to familiar with the wiring/installation of amps/subs/speakers/headunit. but im hoping its plug-n-play set up.

yea i checked out crutch field and i saw some possibilities but then again its just a website. plus i not many fans of crutchfields prices around here. but the free accesories they give you are nice

i rather have p5/mazda owners suggestions since probably they have upgraded they system.

the stuff they throw in is what you would need to make everything plug and play. ive bought all my audio stuff from them so far

For the prices crutchfield charges, you could buy me plane tickets to fly to canada and install the stuff for you.

You can just buy new tweets and midbass drivers and attempt to run them on headunit power. And if your not satisfied, you can get an amplifier. Its not too hard to do.
I'm about to actually tear my car completely apart and redo the entire interior/dash/doors :) Soon as christmas break hits that is (23rd)

he wanted to spend 200 which will get you a nice headunit or a set of speakers and definately not have cash left to spend on an amp. and please let me know when you find a place with better prices than crutchfield and still has the great customer service and reputation

I got my Clarion unit from Crutchfield for 129.00 ,20 watts per channel , USB and Aux inputs on the front , IPOD control, 2 sets of pre-amp outputs & 1 sub output for expandability later. I even saw it on sale for 99.99 recently. Keep in mind that Crutchfield gives you the dash kit & harness so you can wire it up in your house & just plug and play. They also ship for free and no sales tax either.
I love loading up the thumbdrive with a few hundred songs and keeping the CD's in the attic! Red illumination matches the dash too.

How about Kenwood KDC-MP142 and Sony CDXGT240- decent sound with red illumination...

I have to admit the dash looks like crap wothout the stock radio deck but thats the only way to go if you want better sound. i dont like the hole thats left in the dash by using the single din and i like the nice illumination the head unit provides at night

ah that looks pretty good! how was installation

did u upgrade your speakers? if not how is the headunit compared to teh stock? sounds better? more power?

i posted last night but i guess it didnt go through

im still having trouble figuring out the specs on headunits vs speakers.

i would love to have ipod connections! and i dont mind if the illumination matches or doesnt. i dont mind. do you guys suggest i go with crutch field being that it does come with the single deck/and removal tool. cause im still looking for an alpine headunit(many people say they are amazing HU's)

I did change the speakers first, (Polk Audio) and the stock head unit really couldn't power them correctly. I think it puts out 3-5 watts per channel. Once the Clarion unit went in, the speakers came alive. Big Difference. I felt the dash kit needed 2 screws to stay secure, so I drilled 2 small holes and screwed it in place. Finally , I put in the Infinity Basslink and I love the sound!
