Hey guys.. I just had a question for those of you who have a carbon fiber trunk. I'm getting my VIS trunk on Tuesday and installing it next weekend and I was just wondering if there's any pointers you guys can give me lol... I looked through the Protege service manual and it looks pretty straightforward but any help from those who have experienced it already would be welcome! Thanks! :D

i have the Xcelerated Concepts trunk... it was VERY easy to install.. very straight forward.. the only thing i needed was a couple washers as possible spacers to make both side even so it didnt sit lower on one side then the other..

you also might have to adjust your latch a bit if needed

did you take out the trunk bars that force the trunk open? Because i had to because it would make the trunk FLY open and i did not like that one bit. So im woundering if theres anyway i can make it atleast pop up, im thinking of getting carbon fiber hood dampers and making them fit on the trunk somehow (I also have a GT Spec Trunk cage, so i can make it attach to that somehow) so it will open if i pop it.

Oh picked up E-brake surround from Rush also. AND Maybe getting CF side skirts :)

i was wondering the exact same thing. I got the XC CF trunk, and took out the bars in my trunk. Now to open my trunk, it's a 2 person job. One to pop the trunk, and one to lift it up. Or.....stick a wad of napkins under the latch when you pop the trunk to hold it up, and walk around, lift the trunk yourself. haha. Also, a broom stick to hold up the trunk when i'm digging around the mess in my trunk.

is it possible to remove only one bar?

For those with the XC hood, is there any way to get rid of the damn air bubbles under the clear coat? Probably a stupid question.. I'm only asking as I just got a huge air bubble underneath and I do not recall seeing it upon first inspection of the hood.. it looks like all the air bubbles moved in together in one area. It's definitely between the CF and the top of the clear coat, and you can feel the outer edge of the bubble if you feel with your finger. Grrr. This is one thing I do not recall seeing with the VIS hood I had. That hood yellowed like crap, but I never recall seeing air bubbles. Sorry I'm so damn picky, but this bubble I can just look down and see it. It's not exactly little like most. Excuse all the dust on my hood.. on the last photo, this is what's happening over on the other side. There are black marks under the clear coat, on top of the CF.. and I can feel a couple of these as well, some are deep enough to where I can't feel them. :'( :'( :'(

Those modifications would give you all CF surfaces and I think that would be very impressive looking. I assume there is a treatment you could apply to all of it to assist you in the care and keep up of all that Carbon Fiber.

If you do the spoiler part I'd love to purchase what your old wing :) keep me in mind if you would even consider selling it.

Also if you you do the Evo wing what color would would you want it? Black to match the CF trunk or titanium to match the rest of it?

I just stuck with doing the hood.. that Evo wing looked to big for the MSP to me. My roof cap arrived, but UPS killed it before it got here, so that was a no go.. I'm happy with my hood for now, if I can get these damn air bubbles to go away, and according to Joe, I just sand them and fill them in with more clear. Ugh.. I didn't plan on paying that much only to revise it by filling in air bubbles. *sigh*

You dont like the evo wing. looking at buying a couple of them for the car. i think they look nice but just my 2 cents. everyone is different. lets see some pics of the car with the hood.

The evo wing isn't exactly a direct fit.. and it barely fits. I just don't want to mutilate my trunk for a wing, and after I saw photos of the silver/titanium MSPs with it, it just overpowers the car IMO. I've seen it on a black, spicy, and yellow, and it looked fine. Just not on my car. There are a couple photos of my hood on the page before this.. of the air bubbles.. LOL. Anywayz, here is another pic of it, can't really tell much about it from far away though.

so basically the consensus is that the CF hoods does not really reduce weight but just have the "good looks" factor to it except when it starts to fade due to poor maintenance? am i correct? I personally don't like the evo hood but i only saw pics but i'm not sure if i want just a plain cf hood or vented...

Im getting a carbon fiber hood..... i already have the roof cap and trunk and evo 8 spoiler.

Warning aobut the evo 8 spoiler, it may look rice at some angles, but other angles (like fron the rear) it looks sweet as hell. but also it even looks better with suporting mods.

IMHO im a carbon fiber nut, im actually thinking of getting custom carbon fiber fenders one day :)

So in the end, DO ITTTTTT hahaha, thats my 2 Cents

is that the evo hood you have on your sig?

but this one is by far the sexiest ever...

^^^^ but i really wanna know where to find those ricer spliters in that pic

but pls pls pls don't do the evo hood... but it's your car and you can do what you want... IMO it doesn't look that good... there's a few cars here that have them and i don't likey... plus they are all VIS and looks like it's covered with wax instead of clear coat... but who knows how they maintained it and how long it was on

so is the first one a EVO hood? cuz i actually like that one better than the one on the VIS page...
