DGF is still here

I visit the site a few times a week. My wife and I did take the beautiful drive the full length of Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. Speed limit 35mph. It was the peak of leaf season and the senery was spectacular. We stayed two nights in Charlottesville and visited Montecello (sp) It was a wonderful trip and the 5 performed perfectly. Mileage about 26mph Ave. We love the Mazda and how comfortable we feel in it. It is the perfect car for our needs.

I got an E-Mail from our dealer reminding us to bring it in for an oil change at 3months. They say they recomend changing the oil every three months. This sounds excessive. I usually change oil every 3-4 thousand miles. What is everyones opinion on this?

Glad you all are enjoying your cars! Welcome to the site also!!

the dealer said 3 months because that's the average amount of time it takes us Americans to drive 3000 miles. So your schedule is pretty much right on.

the manual and my salesman both said 4mo/5K for oil changes. 3K is a waste of time and oil.

beautiful drive. I used to live in Harrisonburg, VA and would visit big meadows area along the drive. will have to get back there in the spring I think.

Oil changes twice a year on average will fill the bill, but there are lots of factors that change this schedule.

1. daily drives of less than 10 miles
2. daily drives with a full load of people or gear
3. daily drives that average less than 30 mph
4. oil changes with conventional oil

Any of these factors should require changes at 4 months/5000 miles-which ever comes first.
