hello speeders jus figured id start a tread bout tires I bought 6 sets so far and bout to need a 7th is it jus me or the tires i mostly use khumo & GENERAL X they are good for the price and they last bout 4-6 months (before noticeable wear) So is there anyone else thats buying stock in the tire company or is in jus me?(bang)

I believe you should start this thread in the wheels/tires section, unless you're looking to buy a new set.

Jesus dude, how many miles a day/ how hard do you drive? almost everything that those two companies make SHOULD last about 20K miles, the stockers are complete s*** and I've got 19K on them with a few thousand miles left.. and I drive HARD, plus a 60 mile per day commute.

Yeah seriously. I had 30k on my stockers before i bought my 2nd set. Do you auto-x? I drive about 150 miles per day on average at highway speeds too. How many miles on your car? Something isn't adding up if your on set number 7.

I read of a press car that got 35k on a set... do you rotate your tires? are you a big fan of tokyo drift?

i got 4O,OOO on the dash (all highway) i commute about the same mileage from jerz 2 phila 4 work and the tire tread just melt away like butter dont get me wrong theres definently some spirited drivin goin on but not so were i got to buy a pair of...

I've got 39,200 on the dash and still practically just started my second set. I travel to PA all the time, whether philly, hamburg, carlisle, or lancaster so I just dont get it. I know it's not the roads your driving since I'm on 78, 95, 476, 322, etc. How spirited is your driving? Are you launching off of lights or anything? If anything, switch to a better tire. Im running Falken 912's, alot of others are running Hankook Ventus' and love them. Just really wierd that you've burned through 6 sets in 40k.

I'm hoping you mean sets of TWO, and not sets of FOUR. Have you had your alignment checked?

Also - I'm moving this to the appropriate location.

What's your criterion for ditching a set of tires? Are the worn to the wear bars? Do you measure the tread depth?

If you're having issues with tire wear, try some non-directional tires that you can rotate side to side and front to back, they should wear better (or at least just as well despite being a stickier tire). I'm not sure what asymmetric performance tires are available that aren't ridiculously overpriced, other than the budget extreme performance tires like the Kumho XS and Falken RT-615.

I got the same mileage out of the stock tires that I did out of two sets of directional tires with double the treadwear ratings (420 vs 150). The problem was the directional tires didn't wear evenly because I couldn't rotate them side to side at all (well, not easily). The stock tires were asymmetric and could be properly rotated. Next time I buy tires I'm probably going to go with Kumho XS, despite the low treadwear rating. If I get 12-15K I'll be happy. I'd put RE050A's back on, but they are WAY overpriced.

I've got nearly 5k on my car and haven't rotated my tires yet. My fronts have noticebly less wear than the rears. I've done quite a few burnouts and hard launches.

fixed?

or did you get one of those rare RWD versions of the speed3?

Either that or tire elves did a rotation while he was sleeping. Been trying to catch those little bastards for awhile!

either that or...

thats nuts. you have 4 possible causes:

1. You drive like a lunatic and its your own damn fault
2. You are in desperate need of an alignment
3. Your tire pressure is waayy off (hope you didnt keep putting in the 45psi that the car came with, 34psi is where it should be)
4. You do legitimately race in which case you shouldnt be complaining about fast wear (autox, drag, road race, time attack etc)

I have 11k on my stockers with 2 seasons of autox (10-15 events per season with 6-10 runs each) on them and still have another 4-5k of tread left.....

I have about 7k on my 09 and put Michelin snows on it about a month ago.
When I pulled the factory stones, the rears look great and the fronts have only a little way to go to the wear bars.

I would like to get 20K out of them, but I really no longer want to because I want 8" wide rims on the car and the 215 aren't going to work as well on the wider rim. I'm debating saving the OEM tires with plans of putting them back on the stock rims when I sell it some day and just getting new, 225 width rubber for the new rims instead.

If I were you, as quickly as you go through tires, I would look the best deal on a decent set of "closeout" tires from any of the big house names - discount or Tire Rack or Bell.

Actually.... now that I think of it... the worst wearing tires I used (Kumho Ecsta AST) were by far the cheapest (and for good reason). About $30 per tire less than the Kumho SPT's. The price difference more than made up for the extra wear. Too bad they stick like dirty masking tape compared to the better Kumho's.
