New owner - looking for barrier

Hello Everyone,

Since Friday - I am the owner of a GS base model... (the budget did not give me a choice!!!). I will have to take a picture or two... but it is a 2009 blue with tinted windows, no other accessories or options.

Kinda different from my 2000 Suzuki Swift (boom06)

I have been reading up on the Mazda5 for a few weeks now. Even though I have researched, I still can't find one important information... can I get a cargo barrier? I will not often be using the 3rd row seats, but I do not wish for ANYTHING to come up front...

Anyone out there who can inform me?

Welcome to the family. No info on a 5-specific barrier, but generic/universal ones have been around for years. Volvo wagons seem to require barriers, as I have never seen one without a barrier.

Check measurements on their website.

That is what I thought - for Mazda USA and Canada.
I'll have to check out Mazda UK as they seem to have accessories we do not have here.

have you heard of anyone using a cargo barrier on this forum? Might get useful information... search results weren't useful.

As I am looking, I think of the Swift. Can you imagine that the Suzuki once carried 15 bags of cement? At another time, a dozen or so of 2x4 8 feet long, all windows and doors closed, me inside driving stick shift (6 feet tall - 300 pounds). Me and a friend in it (both the same size) on a road trip for 2 weeks, the back loaded to the roof... What will I do with this one??

By the way, is the Mazda 5 a car or a truck? Can't seem to decide how to call it...

As for an actual barrier for the void space between the 2nd row seats... a quick fix could be to put a piece of plywood or MDF board in between. Ideally I'd love to import a karakuri from Europe/Asia. *drool*

AGAIN, we need to know WHAT he's trying to keep from coming UP FRONT because that will not keep a dog or cat from coming up front.

As for an actual barrier for the void space between the 2nd row seats... a quick fix could be to put a piece of plywood or MDF board in between.

Ewwww, wood splinters and saw dust as well as HOW DO YOU KEEP IT IN PLACE? Unless you were to cover it in cloth or leather and have a way to fasten it down, etc.

Ideally I'd love to import a karakuri from Europe/Asia. *drool*

What type of karakuri ?

Trust me ROBOTS can get through more things than a zombie can !! They are very persistant !!

Well here is what I recomend, dog, cat, zombie or Killer robot, even if it;s for bags of food, you never know when they could go crazy!

I know about the cargo cover. This might be the "last resort" option. I does cover up most of what is in the back end, but does not offer much "security" for flying objects in case of impact.

I am used to having hatchbacks / wagons like the focus. But I was surprised to hear the gallon of windshield washer go from side to side when turning the corner normally. Never happened with the other cars.

Protecting the children has no cost limit...

And I too do not want wood or such. I was thinking of mash or something well anchored easy to put up or take out. Something that could be bundled up.. a full sized net with strong anchors.

Never have I ever thought of imagining having a sport wagon lowered, boosted, tuned, striped.... gotta stop thinking like this !!!

As for the anchoring to the roof, has anyone ever taken the roof liner out? I was thinking of screws... for the anchors... in the upside down U beams.

Attached are the instructions for installing a Mazda OEM roof-mounted DVD player for the Mazda5 Sport (no sunroof). I was thinking about it but even the aftermarket DVD players that I liked were just to expensive for what they were so I never bought one. Now what I want is a nice 10" or larger screen that I can plug an iPod into, use the iPod as my TV show / movie processor.

Back to your question - the attached instructions will show you how to take the headliner off the correct way.

And that picture of the kids in the dog cage - reminds me of a story that an old girlfriend told me. When her sister was young (in the 1970s) she loved to ride in the dog cage in the back of the family station wagon and would throw a major fit unless she was allowed to ride there. OK, now imagine the looks that the mother was getting from other drivers.
