Good BPV without the Forge ping?

Well it would be limited for you... for BPVs it is either the Forge (new valves are said not to ping [or at least not as "bad" as first models]) or the Turbosmart BPV. Otherwise you have to recirc a BOV, which is fine, if that's what you're looking for. I know the SSQV is good, Turbosmart Compact Dual Port, Synapse is supposed to be good. I'll let you know how my Greddy is when it arrives as well.

buddy of mine has the greddy for hi speed 6. sounds mint and works like a charm. it looks sweet too....just if you run vta make sure you tune out the bugs because the engine is going to be searching for that extra air.

For what its worth, the "ping" is over stated by people who just dont like it. Had a Forge for nearly a year, and until I put 1 shim in for the summer (yanking it on Sunday, getting too cold, getting fluttering now) I never knew what people were talking about. I THINK the ping is a function of the fact that the internals of the Forge are VERY closely machined metal, same reason a metal cop whistle sounds metallic, while a plastic one the same size sounds different. Like i said, until I put the shim in, it sounds more like a metallic whistle with a sound similar to a golf ball getting smashed with a driver as the valve shuts. I garundamntee that the Forge performs about 25% better then the stocker. Put the stocker back on for a dealership visit and the DH was showing no more then 13 pounds flat out. With the Forge, I almost always see gear +12 pounds, i.e. 13 in 1st, and 17-18 in 16th.
There is a guy in the area, dont think he on these boards, with a silver Speed with the HKS (at least thats what the sticker on the driver door says) and I think the guy only wants the car to sound like he was an extra in Fast and the Furious.
But I guess its all opinion. I personally like the Forge, it works well, and heck, I only paid $100 for it.

I just don't like it. Even the sound of my intake and TIP is a bit too much for me and there's no way I could do any exhaust mods. Maybe if I was still a teenager I'd think it sounded cool, but now it is just annoying. Even when I just drive normally it pings with full force every time I shift gears. If it only pinged when I was at full throttle that would be different... but "PING!" every time I shift, no thanks.

I thought I would like the sound of the version 1 Forge ping, but you're right Tyrdstorm, it is annoying as hell hearing the thing go off even at fairly low rev short shifts. I am keeping it for now because it does hold boost so much better than the OEM.

i dont see the difference between hearing a ping everytime you shift or a swoosh everytime you shift. sounds like you dont like sound when you shift in that case you should consider a powerful NA motor.

PG TIP, Cobb SRI and Forge BPV = heaven for me. I stopped listening to music. Much rather listen to my car now. Not to mention driving down the street and shifting to make drunk people fall off the curb when they hear it.

My perfect solution:

Take my Forge v.1
Unscrew lid
Clean very well with alcohol
Apply thin bead of high temp red silicone around ring where piston hits lid, smooth out so you've got maybe an 1/8" layer.
Cure overnight
No more ping, just a nice swoosh, thwap sound

That ping was annoying as heck. Now it sounds great. The only reason the v.1 pings is because it's metal on metal as the piston hits the lid. Nothing more complicated than that. If you put a plastic lid on the Forge it would sound like a stocker.

good idea.

Put my Turbosmart BPV today. Does not ping, sounds a lot like the factory one just like I wanted. Thanks for all the help!

no one here has HKS SSV?

The SSQV? This:

Yeah, plenty of people have it.

I mentioned above that I ran the ssqv. It was great. I never had a problem. I ran it both vta and recirc'd.
