So i did a search to see if there was a thread about different oil filters you can use with the spin on oil filter conversion kit. So anybody know what oil filters i can use?

the ones that i know of that fit are

K&N --- HP-1002

Fram --- PH3614, DG3614, PH7575, PH966B

Purolator --- L10028, L10241

im sure there are more out there..but those are only the ones i know.

Is there a particular vehicle that you can cross-reference from to get appropriate filters from? I'd be interested in a Wix filter if I did this.

I was also considering a WIX filter cause i heard some pretty good things about them. I thought i saw a thread awhile back about a wix filter someone used with the conversion kit but i cant find it now.

FRAM CROSS REF FOR WIX 51348 = PH3614 AND PH7575
WIX CROSS REF FOR PH3614 FRAM = 51348
WIX CROSS REF FOR PH7575 = 51348

it would be WIX --- 51348

tooken from another forum..

Awesome. The 57203 Wix filter is the one needed for the cartridge style if anyone needs it.

will these filters fit the prosport sandwich plate adapter? i'd assume they have the same thread but dont know for sure.

I called the guy at Mazda when I did my oil just before selling my car. Our engines spin on conversion uses the same filters at the Mazda 3 with the 2.0L 4 cyclinder in it.

Don't believe me, call your parts department. Mine went on just fine, no leaking issues.

yeah, the filter conversion comes with a genuine mazda filter.

whats wrong with just using a mazda brand filter?

I would use a mazda filter but the drive to the dealership is farther than the drie to the local parts store. Dealership prices are probably more too. I found Mobile 1 filter M1-102 fits. I went with Mobile 1 because there was a sale going on where you get 5 quarts of oil and a filter for 29.99

i was wondering if someone had something on the build quality being bad or whatever.

but yeah, local parts store closer for me too.

I used K&N HP-2009 for a while. Switched to amsoil Eo-15 filter. Same filter size just different make. I think that is the largest filter you can put on. I may be wrong. Ive heard of someone using a wix filter that is slightly larger than this.

that filter is almost $19 retail on the amsoil website, is that how much u paid for the filter?? id like to try it out just wondering if u got it cheaper then retail somewhere.

yes they will

I pay like 12 bucks for it. I have an amsoil dealer 10 minutes from my house. And im a member so I buy at cost.

I'm gonna try the K&N HP-2009 soon on my spin-on. I just converted to the SU spin on filter unit. I have the OEM Mazda filter on it right now and it works great. Already put 1000 miles on it.

heres what the EAO-15 looks like...i know it looks big but it does fit with the spin on conversion quite nicely

I get the ea0 33 since that's what the cross reference said was for the mazda oem included filter to wix to amsoil guide said. I also have a sandwich plate adapter with sensors installed (haven't installed the gauges yet) and I have no clearance issues. The 15 is probably overkill if it costs more and is taller since you're probably not going to leave it in for the 25K miles. If you have a speed, you should also be using 0w-30 not 5w-40. Getting a thicker oil to prevent smoking is only masking your pcv issue and you should get the fix rather than cause higher oil temperatures and pressures that will restrict oil flow and prevent proper lubrication.

For the record I have a 6i and run 0W-20 and the EAO-33 filter and have for the past 20K miles with no issues and my dealer even likes that I do.

well Mazda is recommending using 5w-40 if u have a smoking issue, tunersteve can chime in on this... all the speed's in the uk use it as a standard oil..i plan on changing out my eao-15 every 3000 miles like i uaually do..so ur telling all of us speed owners that we should use 0w-30 ARE U NUTS!!! talk about not knowing ur stuff.. you have a regular 6 read up before u post stuff like that and confuse other members with ur posts. there are several different threads about why were all using 5w-40 and why everyone should be switching over to it especially if ur modded..i would say that there are over 100 members using 5w-40 without a single issue to date Mr. 0w-30..

Can you explain WHY 5W-40 is 'better'? Do you have an oil temperature & pressure gauge on your car?

Did you know that a 0W-30 and 5W-30 are the same thickness at operating temp? The reason why I say this is because at operating temp, a 40W oil would generate more oil pressure and less oil flow, activating the bypass system earlier. Do you want less oil squirting to the underside of your pistons? I'd suggest finding the right oil for the engine's life than trying to solve one issue while risking another.
