*Questions, suggestions, tips, about the Mazda 5/Premacy Car Alarm installation*
************************************************************

Thought I'd start a car alarm installation thread in hopes of getting some help with this processes from my fellow 5/Premacy owners, wish me luck! (usa)

------

WHY install a after market alarm?

Here are a few reasons, if you say NO to any, then you might want to look into it:

1. Does your OEM alarm allow you to roll down your windows, let the heat out and not worry about your radar detector or lose change going missing from the side pocket because the alarm sounds as anyone aproaches the vehicle and blasts them with a very loud siren?

2. Does your OEM alarm alert you while sitting in a crowded theater mid movie that someone has just broken the glass of your car and took your favorite collection of Elvis CD's in all of the thieves 11 seconds of inconvenience?

3. Now that your car has been backed into at the parking lot, does your OEM alarm tell you that you were the victim of a hot and run?

4. Does you OEM alarm have radar that lets the fat ass lady and her big ass shopping cart to stay the F away from your car? (I love that one )

Okay, I could go on and on... and I've said NO to all of them and guess what, that takes care of ME. If you do or don't want to read the rest, that's fine, but as I get time to take pictures, write testimonial here, I'll add little by little what I did to install my alarm, hope it helps someone some day.

--------------------------
--------------------------

So I've bought the Crime Guard 750i5 Car Alarm (CA) and just started to read the installation manual. Don't think I can get it all read in one night. (unamused)

Just look at one page, it's a bit, but worth doing it right! (attn)

== Okay so that is how I started out, daunting huh? I was so scared to start this, but read on... it get better...

MYTH #1:
"I was told by a local car audio installation shop that such an installation is impossible. The Mazda 5 and Premacy are not the same"

TRUTH:
Car alarm installation is not that hard, it is more time consuming than anything, IF, you've installed a car stereo, AMP, or other like item, the CA is not that hard, just takes time, took me 6 hours, with a 1 1/2 hour lunch break and messing with a few other things.

(POINT #1: Take your time)

MYTH #2:
"Oh, anyone have the wire guide for a Premacy / Mazda 5?"

TRUTH: There is no need for a detailed wire guide, UNLESS you plan to go against TheMAN's great advice down below, i.e. IF YOU DON'T NEED REMOTE START, DON'T F-N INSTALL IT! (bowdown) thanks TheMAN for that great advice.

(POINT #2: DON'T install things you DON'T need)

MYTH #3:
"So, here starts another 'How to' / OMFG I can't believe I'm going to try this myself project!"

TRUTH:
It's not that hard, not as hard as installing a stereo IMO and just under installing a power amp and a sub woofer box. Just have confidence and

(POINT #3... READ THE DARN MANUAL, I know it's dry and confusing at first, look at what I did, color code, LOL!)

MYTH #4:
"Do I have to install every option that comes with my alarm?"

TRUTH:
NO! See my note in the picture below about the starter disabler ?? (Well Dah, it says NO!)

1008841.jpg

MYTH #5:
"I'll have to get this installed and it'll cost too much and void warranty."

TRUTH:
NO, LOL! the OEM pager alarm here in Japan is $1,450.00 ! i JUST SAVE $1,250.00 !! IAW the books and a quick e-mail to OMEGA too:

http://www.caralarm.com

It's no worse than installing an after market radio. (FYI don't install on a leased car, yes it will void the lease!.)

\0/
So, as you'll read below from other post prior to my 'clean up' I was scared to do this, trust me it's not that hard. Now go back and see if you NEED an alarm that fills the requirements YOU NEED IT FOR. I SURE AM GLAD I DID IT !! (headbang)

Peace!(rei)

I don't really see the point in replacing the existing standard alarm system with an aftermarket one! why carry 2 key fobs! the factory one arms the alarm system when you lock the doors. Just press the lock button twice, when the horn beeps, the alarm is armed!!

My 5 already has OEM alarm.

Wow, Dima you're so lucky to have an OEM alarm & fob that vibrates
/ alerts you when someone has walked by your car or inserted their
arm into the cab of the vehicle when the windows are rolled down to
let the heat out of the car during the summer months. I wish my
OEM alarm did that (argh). What is the radar range of you OEM alarm
system and how do you adjust it?

I don't really see the point in replacing
the existing standard alarm system with an aftermarket one!

Well, here on the surface of the sun, AKA: Okinawa Japan, 80% humidity
and 91 degrees with a Wet Bulb temperature that reaches 110 degrees
daily, we tend to look for ANY resolve to alleviate a hot car, melted dash,
melted steering wheel or faded paint / interior parts and that includes
open all the windows and keep an sys on your car, unfortunately I have
to do work sometimes away from my office window.

why carry 2 key fobs!

See above and.. I too can yell loudly, loud noises! (lol j/k, that is a line
from the movie Anchorman)

the factory one arms the alarm system
when you lock the doors. Just press the lock button twice, when the
horn beeps, the alarm is armed!!

Wow, was98strat it must be nice to own a Premacy (I mean Mazda 5)
that has that type OEM alarm, my little old 2006 Premacy doesnt have
such a great OEM alarm, I even tried what you said on my Premacy
while here at work. Pushed the button twice and nope, it just locked
the doors like normal, no horn beeps. Also I reached in through the
open window (See why above) and unlocked the door and no alarm
sound, no buzz on my 'fob' - nothing. I'm so jealous. (kiss)

Anyhow, I'd not started this weekend on the alarm/ radar unit, had
some other things I needed to get done first and want a full three day
weekend to work it, i.e this coming weekend is Labor Day weekend, so
that'll give me plenty of time to do it right the first time.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll keep you posted!
Peace! (rei)

Got it installed, will post pictures soon. Works great, but now I need to learn how to use it, LOL!

Peace!(rei)

Great news!

Did any of the info posted here help?

Gurrr, when I get time, I'm going to post the 'How to" by update the original post (first post) but please give me time, I'm still trying to read and tweek the darn thing. (2thumbs)

mazda makes a remote start OEM paging alarm for the JDM mazdas

there is NO reason to use a cheap aftermarket alarm with these new mazdas.... it has an immobilizer system that is much better than any aftermarket alarm's immobilizer out there... furthermore, when you install an aftermarket alarm, you'll have to bypass the stock immobilizer in some way (especially true for remote starts), which really compromises the security of the car....

so bottom line is this.... if you're installing an aftermarket alarm, don't install the immobilizer part of the system... just let it do the doors and hood... if you want remote start, suck it up and buy mazda's kit

oh and for the cars that do come with a factory alarm, the hood pin switch is built into the hood latch, which makes it pretty difficult to defeat before opening the hood (which some thieves might do to disconnect the battery before smashing the car)... so it's something worth buying instead of drilling a hole somewhere for a pin switch

All great points here guys and gals check TheMAN's info close!

OMG really, with a radar, so if a bird flies in my open window, takes a crap on my front seat the Mazda OEM alarm will sound before his first turd hits my seat?!! Oh heck, why did you not say something before, I waited months to get this alarm from the states, (Only $149.00 compared to the $1,450.00 OEM Mazda Alarm) just so I could have radar and scare off the birds and alert me when the grass ninjas (The cute little Okinawan guys and gals that cut the grass on base) BEFORE they swing on by may ride and weed whack all around my OPEN windows because it's 900 degrees outside in Okinawa, and they love to leave a pile of cut grass on the front seat, and do it ever so stealthy, those rascally ninjas! (I'll get you some day!, Muahahaha)

Gee now I feel dumb. (sick)

there is NO reason to use a cheap aftermarket alarm with these new mazdas....

Well yeah, now ya tell me this $1,450 alarm has radar and a pager system, sheesh! (uhm)

it has an immobilizer system that is much better than any aftermarket alarm's immobilizer out there...

Well since I went ahead and installed it, great advice, I DID NOT use the after market one, at least I was not that dumb, (lol2)

furthermore, when you install an aftermarket alarm, you'll have to bypass the stock immobilizer in some way (especially true for remote starts), which really compromises the security of the car....

Whew! Good call there, good thing I DID NOT touch that at all, for my BIRD and NINJA problem. :D

so bottom line is this.... if you're installing an aftermarket alarm, don't install the immobilizer part of the system... just let it do the doors and hood..

Good point, everyone listen up, TheMAN is correct, Don't mess with it, that is what I did, stayed far away from those wires. (wink)

if you want remote start, suck it up and buy mazda's kit

Great point, good thing I DON'T NEED or WANT remote start, I think it's dumb anyhow, thanks for the vote of confidence, I'd made the right choice not to even go there. :D

oh and for the cars that do come with a factory alarm, the hood pin switch is built into the hood latch, which makes it pretty difficult to defeat before opening the hood (which some thieves might do to disconnect the battery before smashing the car)... so it's something worth buying instead of drilling a hole somewhere for a pin switch

Whew! One more 'I got it right!' w00t for me!! ( (lol) see the first post, proof I'd not used the pins, they are on my desk at work! )

Thank you for making my point and letting anyone that reads this thread some day later... RULE OF THUMB... IF YOU DON'T NEED IT, DON'T INSTALL IT KIDDIES!!

Good luck to those that buy the $1,450.00 OEM alarm, hope that radar works great for ya!

Peace!(rei)

I don't think $1450 is ever going to be an issue for americans... that fancy OEM alarm isn't even available here! there's no alarm upgrade kit except for the crappy remote start system (that includes an alarm)

Oh that is a bummer man, sorry to hear that, well thought since I mentioned it, I better post a link to what I speak of when I speak of the $1,450.00 OEM alarm (BTW the $149.00 alarm does the same stuff, LOL!)

Thanks for the link I have the shop options pdf brochure file downloaded. In terms of car-accessories availability, I have to say you are in heaven.

As for the proximity alarm that makes the car beep or chirp anytime someone goes near it, It is not advisable here. there is a danger that your 'fully' smart
car might be 'marked' 'for later action' by vandals.

To compensate for the lack of available bling-blings, I use
the following add-on. http://www.gps-snitch.com this one sends me text message when motion is sensed, and another text message when the car has moved few feet from where it was. After that tracking information is available in real time.

don't fret... there's different levels of alarm/remote start options you can get!
for the sake of warranty and be able to use the NICE OEM remote... the basic alarm is only about $240! the premium system has a proximity sensor and pager for under 600 bucks... yeah its more expensive than aftermarket but it LOOKS and WORKS nice at least... it won't be the ultimate in security, but who cares about that in japan where car theft rates are low?

its only when you care about having both the alarm and remote start that it becomes $1450

on another note, the dashboard illumination and foot lamps are pimp!
I have foot lamps in my protege and my 3 (they aren't US accessories... JDM only)... love them and worth it!

Got my after market one for $149.00, so I did good huh?

but it LOOKS and WORKS nice at least...

I think my after market one looks and works better than OEM, I tried one of the OEM on the lot on a 2010 Premacy and I laughed.

it won't be the ultimate in security,

A lock (Alarm) is only meant to keep an honest person honest.
(nana)

but who cares about that in japan where car theft rates are low?

A ha! That is NOT why I got my alarm! I got mine for:

1) Windows open all day long at work, outside my office window at side of the building. Forking BIRDS flew into my car and s*** on my seats! (rant)

2) PARKING: warns off people when they exit their car NOT to ding my doors, I HOPE. An OEM alarm in JAPAN does not have the warning chirps. (pissed)

3) Someone BACKS INTO ME in a parking lot, they're less likely to drive off, because they think someone SAW what they did because the alarm draws attention to it.

its only when you care about having both the alarm and remote start that it becomes $1450

Got both for $149.00

the dashboard illumination and foot lamps are pimp!

I've got OEM foot lamps in green, mmmmm sweet. I'm ponder what I want to do with the 'shelf' as I call it, most likely green LED or some sort of illumination plate.

I have foot lamps in my protege and my 3 (they aren't US accessories... JDM only)... love them and worth it!

I agree well worth it.

Peace!(rei)
