Will 225/40 be ok to run on stock OEM wheels?

The 2010's have a 225 on the same sized wheel, so I'd think that you're good to go.

2010 MS3's run on 18x7.5's.

But to answer the OP, yes, you can run 225/40's on the stock MS3 wheels. You can also run 225/45's, which I did before I sold my stockers.

CnoTataymo has it right, the 2010 MS3 is a half inch wider wheel. I wouldn't run a 225/40 on the 07-09 OEM wheel. That's just me, some here might tell you it's OK but not recommended by most in the tire industry. I went with a 225/45 and it works with the pre-2010 stock wheel.

ok i've been pondering about this for awhile too. is it even possible to go 235/40 or 45/18 on the stockers? somethin i've been plannin on doing just don't know if it's possible or even worth doing. need a tire expert! help!

If you look on TireRack you can find the specs for the tire that you are interested in. They'll include the acceptable wheel widths.

Yokohama Parada Spec2's are the ONLY 225/40/18 tire that are within specs (7-8.5") of the stock 07-09 Mazdaspeed3 wheel. I'm sure other 225/40/18's could be mounted on the stock rim but they wouldn't be within mfg specs. Not all like size tires are equal. The only thing negative about the Parada Spec2's is how loud they are, otherwise they perform much like an R-compound. Great for drag as well! I pull 2.0-2.1 60ft with them consistently.
