What have you done to your MSP today?

:o where did you get them from and what are the part numbers?

There are two 194 bulbs and two 74 bulbs (not positive about the 74 bulbs though)

I am currently working with a vendor on a led setup the problem I am having is that mazda only used 4 bulbs so getting the leds to evenly spread the lighting is getting tough

How many bulbs are normally used? You see, I thought the dimness was just the way the car is. Is it possible to throw a different color in there or is it a red film? I hate red interior lighting.

...4 bulbs like I said

Each bulb has a red condom over them but I believe the gauge faces have a little bit of red tinge to them. The light output sucks big time because its only 4 bulbs. However adding gauge rings helps immensly which is why its such a sought after item.

there is the color condom on the bulb and the faces are tinted too so throwing in a different color bulb wont do the trick, i think you can sand down the back of the gauge faces to make it work though

won't do what trick? increased light output is increased light output.

I beg to differ. If it works on the old green guages by just changing the bulb color and not the tint on the gauges im sure it will work on these. Grant it the color will be off slightly due ot the tint on the guages.

from what i noticed after owning 3 third gens..... my MSP cluster was the dimmest out of all of them lol. the mp3 and es were the same brightness. i tried swapping bulbs from an extra cluster from my mp3 cluster and that didn't help. luckily they were the same mileage so i kept the mp3 cluster and sold the MSPs. it really really really..... really got on my nerves how dim it was. i would drive under a street light and the gauge lighting would disappear due to its dim lighting (argh)

theres a reason VERY few manufacturers make white dashes, at least in the price range of the protege.... good luck. if it doesn't come out with some sort of tint, you will be a rich man.

I know, I read that before. Let me rephrase, how many bulbs would a normal 4 door compact sedan have?

And one would think that by simply removing the red "condom" off the bulb would suffice to making it brighter since there is already a red tint.

Lastly, how would the DaveB gauge rings help this cause?

no idea... maybe the reflection from the rings...?

Stops the light from running off the edges & "bounces" it back...
aka "refraction"
