ok guys I have a question... I have a 07, 3, sedan, sgt. I have sat. hooked up, but don't use it. Why pay for music when I can stream it for free!?! The Media button does not work in my vehicle. I took it down to Mazda and they said that I had to buy this thing to make both the sat. and media button work for 150 bucks with out install...(eekfu) I need to know if there is a way to disconnect the sat button and make the media button work. Ohh by the way I already have the jack in the center conceal. Thanks
The issue is that both the ACI (console input) and sirius use the same port on the back of the HU. After realising they designed it badly and that some people might actually want to use both features Mazda introduced the switchbox (the aforementioned $150 part) that allows you to plug both into it, and then it connects to the HU.
So the things wrong with what they told you/solution for you:
1) The switchbox costs $113 and has for several years. You can easily install it yourself if you can use a phillips head screwdriver.... should take you less than 30 minutes unless you're being really careful.
2) You only need to install the switchbox if you want both the OEM sirius and the ACI to work at the same time. If you're going to be streaming from your iphone then you probably don't care to have the sirius stay connected.
3) When they installed your sirius they likely either tied your ACI plug off to another harness, or tucked it behind a panel to keep it from rattling around. All you have to do is pull the HU, unplug the sirius and plug back in the ACI plug.
4) You can always remove the sirius receiver (likely behind the paneling on the passenger side of the trunk/cargo area) and sell it on the forums. Then you're making money instead of spending it!

I'm confused. That's what mine does, but I've never changed anything. What did your Media button do before you changed it? For that matter, what did your SAT button do before you changed it?
When I plug into the jack in the console and press Media, it plays and displays AUX on the display. I did not order the Sirius option so when I press SAT, nothing happens.
I'm wondering if I can rig something up so I can have two AUX inputs, or if I can somehow hardwire my aftermarket Sirius into the SAT button.
The reason yours does that is because your ACI plug is connected to the HU and was never disconnected in favor of the OEM sirius. If you don't have one of the modules installed the button will do nothing (read: what the OP's MEDIA button does right now, and what your SAT button does).
There's no way to integrate an aftermarket sirius receiver into the OEM HU as if it were the OEM sirius. However if you're interested in having two inputs there are a couple of choices for you. Sadly most of the aftermarket inputs use the same port the ACI and sirius do so that limits options if you want to keep the ACI working. The Aux Mod Basic connects through the TAPE/MD slot on the bottom of the HU. That said it's accessed through the MEDIA button (which was the TAPE/MD button in '04-'05 models) so I don't know if it would work on a car that uses the MEDIA button to access the ACI. Alternately if you
don't want to use the ACI you could get an ipod integration module that provides a 3.5mm input....... assuming you use an ipod. Then you could connect your sirius unit through the 3.5mm jack.
