My 2 cents....
I thought I would add my 2 cents worth. I am a new owner of a 2009 MSP3.
However, I am a long time owner of many performance cars. (Ole dude = OLD dude) My first turbo was a new 1964 Corvair,. (I said OLD!) Presently, my other car is a 2003 Mustang Mach 1 setup for road track, full suspension mods, etc, with a few good ones between those cars.
The point is nearly every car I owned with even moderate performance all had some issue with engine related failures.
The Corvair would blow head gaskets often. The Mach 1 has more than one tick, clicks, and a reputation for going boom on occasion.
I believe there are two points. One, as stated here, a lot of the issues come from poor planning and / or poor modifications, helped along by the driver in some cases.
Secondly, our engine is power dense, probably in its stock form fairly close to the limit of reliability. Any mod other than simple intake, perhaps exhaust mods, I believe, requires serious consideration of internals.
With a proper build, the engine is likely as reliable as most high performance engines producing the same power to displacement.
The MSP3 is easy to over rev and seems like it might be a weak point. It just requires a close eye to your driving.
My new MSP3 will visit the local road track mid-September, in full stock form. If all goes well she may replace the Mach 1 as the track car.
