ms3 2007
well i wrecked my car recently and its in the shop right now getting repaired. now i can get a moonroof for a 3 sedan for free probably. how much should i expect to pay to have it put in my 3? should i go to the dealer to do it? or what? its a factory part from a sedan can i throw it in my ms3 hatch? Can I jack the headliner from the donor sedan too? so the only thing im going to need to pay for is mounting it in my ms3 and taking it out of the other car how much moola am i lookin at?

Well I definitely wouldn't go to the dealer, seeing how they will likely contract it out. So you will be paying them anddd the body shop. I would find a local shop that has done sunroofs before or does them all the time.

As for the headliner, it will not fit the hatch. Since its a OEM moonroof, I would try to buy or find a OEM Hatch headliner.

I have heard of others paying a little over 1000 bucks to get an aftermarket moonroof installed, which is including the actual moonroof.

I would not think it will be less than 500-600 bucks to get the roof cut and new one installed.

First I would check with a dealer to see if the hatch and sedan moonroofs are the same part numbers.

Edit:
New Hatch headliner is 635 bucks....

Another thing to consider is that it has to be cut in the same exact spot as the OEM sunroof for everything to fit correctly.

i have a friend who does custom headliners. would that be a good option? idk what it costs but i saw a headliner that he did for his cutlass it was ghetto fabulous but it worked and looked clean. idk how hard it is to add a sunroof to it

I would say that if you don't pay for it to get done right then its definitely not worth doing. Not saying your buddy can't do it right, just an overall statement to the whole project.

Just saying maybe the 1080 bucks or whatever it was might be cheaper in the end rather than getting everything to work from salvaged parts.

Which, in the MS3's case means cutting away bracing. We've been over this before. It's stupid idea and there's a reason Mazda didn't put one on the MS3.

Pics of said bracing here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123749414

/thread.

Like A-ron said, there is bracing that would have to be redone to keep structural support and its going to cost more then your averages chop-a-honda.

the OEM sunroof itself is most of the cost... then you will have to get the OEM roof panel, OEM reinforcements and of course the OEM headliner, dome light and switch... you can hack up wires to hook it up too of course

it's still going to cost you a s*** load to get this done but its all possible

correct me if im wrong but i seem to remember some thread somewhere saying that the ms3 has the factory roof brace for the factory installed moon roof because it increased the structural rigidity anyway. which the sunroof reduces and they like that since more rigidity equals more precise handling

Looking at that picture it looks like the first brace would be right where the sunroof would go.

depending on exactly where it would be put and how big it is, it could be the first and second brace. I know my dealer said it would be $2k+tax which includes a warranty, but I'll keep my braces.
