Who has Ms3 with Mazda CAI only??

Probably the single most amazing mod you can do to the car to open up the car's possibilities while maintaining your warranty. DO IT!

Most important thing to remember!!!! They didnt trip till they questioned blow off valve. But whatever they still replaced my motor.

Anyways....bought mine from a guy here. Didnt care to wait for reproduction. Just be sure to get air straightener with it. Helps even if not used in extreme cold weather.

Great addition especially for sound. Installed mine myself and dealer didnt mind. I am a tech. though just not for mazda.
 
What mods do you have here other than the CAI. 274 whp from just a CAI is hard to believe.

Bone stock except for the CAI. Mine was measured with the hood closed and a 25 mph shop fan to the grill. Unlike roller dynos, dynapacks measure power at the hub. They do not account for losses due to rotational mass or traction. Import Tuner used a dynapack on a bone stock 08 MS3 and got similar results.

Peak HP is irrelevant anyways. Different cars, climates, testing techniques, etc. It's more important to use the same measuring tool/method when evaluating gains, which was what I was most concerned about.



This was verified in 2 dealers.

One dealer quoted me $300 because it requires 3 hours of labor, which includes resetting the ecu.

I haven't pull the trigger yet on the cai.

I do believe a down pipe would have larger hp/tq gains vs an intake of any kind.
That said, I'm not willing to risk losing any portion of the warranty.

The upper splash shield removal is the hardest part of the install. There are two bolts and a screw that sit right below/behind the driver's headlight. To do it right, you need to take off the front bumper partially, left front tire, and lower splash shields (which is what the dealer will do). Otherwise you can just reach from underneath and rip out the upper splash shield for the quick 45 minute install.

The intake will provide better gains because of the stock restrictions, unless you remove the stock resonator.

Is it true that the Mazda CAI can be installed as a SRI only? I know a dealer here in ohio that still has these in stock.
 
If you're going to install as SRI, then order an SRI.

Not installing the MSCAI properly could still result in a voided warranty, since you did not install/use the part properly.
 
The only thing I am afraid of having a CAI installed is the possibility of sucking up water into the intake. I might just have to find a mod friendly dealership for further service...(bang)

In theory a CAI would be a better mod than a SRI. But for these cars both intakes perform the same and makes similar power. People who switch their CAI to SRI can't really tell much of a difference in power. You got to know your streets. How bad does it gets when it rains. Here were I live our streets forms into lakes, so I think it would be smart to go with a SRI for my situation. I chose CP-e nano for their good price and quality. They have a dyno chart to back their products up. If CAI did really made that much power over the SRI then I would have stick with a CAI and risk it, but they don't. If MS CAI makes you happy then go for it and stop whining lol.

The CAI does make 1-2 horses more but the SRI gives 1-2 more torque. So basically they are the same. You won't hydrlock if you put a hydroshield on your intake unless you drive through a flooded area. I live in florida and ive seen my share of heavy rain. Never an issue. Just make sure you dont hit flooded areas going 60 mph.
 
I have taken my intake off a few times for dealer visits and have noticed a substantial difference in performance everytime - especially hard 2nd gear pulls.
 
Combine your intake with an aftermarket turbo inlet and you're complete. Done. Next, open up the exhaust system (downpipe, race/mid pipe).

The advantage of the Mazdaspeed CAI is there is no chance that the dealers will try to give you problems with it.

However, if you get a get a SRi lets say from Cpe... could that void your warranty? I seriously doubt an intake alone could do that... but you never know.

Yep. Guy I knew with an MS6 had an unusual amount of soot buildup on the MAF sensor which gave faulty readings to the ECU over time. It contributed to mild premature wear of piston #3. It was probably a defective sensor, but Mazda determined that the presence of an aftermarket intake as root cause. They ended up covering 50% of the cost.

That's why I went with the MSCAI.
