Purchasing a CX-9

2009 GT, moonroof and navi pkgs., pearl white, 32.8k plus TTL from Zam at Menlo Mazda. Trade in my '06 TL and was looking for something bigger with a newborn and all. Enjoying the car so far, navi works better than the Acura to my surprise. BT is much more clearer as well. I do miss the tilt mirror while on reverse, auto lock from P, individual TPMS points, and maintenance minders from the Acura but it's all good.

Zam, if you're reading this, thanks and where can I get one of those orange Nike Zoom Zoom shirts?

finally

Finally bit the bullet. Bought a used blue 09 GT with moonroof and navi -- only 2300 miles on it. $30k+ttl. It was sitting at a lexus dealer. Someone bought it and two month later decided they wanted a premium lexus instead. The best deal I could get on a new vehicle locally was $34k+ttl so I was pleased. I don't think this dealer was used to people negotiating. It's in a part of town where people don't even bother to ask about price.

Recent purchase

I recently purchased a 2008 Stormy Blue Sport demo with 3k miles. I wanted leather, but I found a deal that I couldn't pass up. I'm loving it so far.

MSRP $31,000
Purchase Price $18,500 (40% off sticker)
OTD $19,514
Financed through my work's credit union at 4.75%

The dealership was 100 miles away from me, but delivered it for free. I got them to change the oil before they came.

Wow...quite a deal. Congrats!

Thanks! I did my homework, but got lucky on this deal. I bought it from a Ford dealership that had bought some cars from a Mazda dealership that closed.

The credit union thought it was a good deal too as they put down $23k for the value of the car when I signed the papers.

Canadian Demo Pricing

Hi, first timer here so I'm not sure if this is the way to do this, but.... I have owned an 06 sportwagon for 3 yrs and loved it (well except for a transmission failure while vacationing in Florida and discovered the US dealer would not honour a Caanadian VIN car). I am now looking at a 2009 CX9 at a Toronto area dealer, it is a loaded GT Grand Touring and was (supposedly) a Mazda executive car, without putting a cheque in front of them the best they seem to want to do is $41,000 CDN (car has 21,000 KM on itor about 13,000 miles). Question to the folks who have obviously done extensive research does this seem like a good deal or should I walk away and keep looking?

$36,636 (US$) for a GT with 13,000 miles that's nearly at the end of it's "new" model year?
I don't think so.
You should get bids from at least 2 or 3 other dealers -- and also consider getting the Sport or Touring (if you really have to have leather) -- those with NO miles will cost a LOT less out of the box!

Thanks to all with their advice on pricing. Guess I am getting concerned with the lack of availability of CX9's with luxury package and nav (only 4 of these listed on auto trader in all of Ontario, and only 2 had nav). After scouring all the reviews and forums along with my experience with the sportwagon I am convinced this is the right vehicle for me but I certainly don't want to over pay in this market. Thanks to everyone who replied, great forum and comraderie!

wow, man, way to work it! that's the epitome of being patient, smart (and, as you said, a little lucky, too) in this economic time frame!
so welcome to the club -- and in your case, specifically to the Stormy Blue Sport Club -- where all the cool kids hang out. lol

Keep in mind that if you pay cash the dealer takes off $4000.

Otherwise $1500 to finance via Mazda financing.

I took the $4000 and found other financing.

Don't forget to get your $500 Mazda Preferred Card by calling their corporate offices.

So, IMO your price seems to be a fair one.

I emailed Mazda and asked about the $500 card but was told they don't offer that anymore.

So I can get another $4,000 off the quote, if I get my own financing? That makes it a great deal.

I'd be shocked if you get another $4k off your price on a new '09. In my larger metro area $6500 off MSRP is average deal, $7500 is possible at the right time (Memorial sale), and $8000 off is impossible to get.
