Restart after stalling

Twice in the past month, I have stalled out my 2008 Speed3. Each time, I almost panicked because when I turned the key to restart the engine, basically nothing happened. No click of the starter, no nothing.

Eventually, after a few seconds, it restarted.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for any replies/advice.

It is most likely a safety mechanism and most cars are like this today. The ignition switch isn't connected to the starter anymore. It is connected to the body or engine control computer. There is usually code in there that it checks to see if the engine is not running before it will allow starter engagement. Keeps people from grinding the starter while the car is already running.

It might have a two or three second delay to ensure the engine is fully stopped before it will allow starter engagement again.

Aha! Thanks for that tip. I'll purposely stall it again, on a hill so I can jump the clutch if necessary, and see if that is what is required.
