"Spin" or tires slip? I've had the tires scrabble for traction without the lights coming on and the TCS kicking in, but that is very, very close to the grip threshold of the nannies kicking in. I've also been at that point and had the lights blink and the TCS close the throttle plate, for that matter.

correction, meant to write with tcs/dsc on

when the system is functioning correctly the light will flash (during spin or whatever else happens outside of the system's parameters) just like the ABS light will flash if you lock up your wheels during hard braking

and the lights just straight turn on and stay on if you're on the dyno

To respond to some of you who say it is driver related, why is it that I or others have never had difficulty driving other 5spds?

I've driven a VW Thing smoothly which in itself is huge! :D

OTHER 5-speeds?

Yeah, I'd say your DSC isn't the only thing that isn't right about your car...

...it should have come with 6 forward gears. :p

I could be wrong but maybe you're just not meant to drive a MS3.

so because he, along with MANY other MS3 drivers, can't seem to be able to get a smooth shift with this car, he isn't meant to drive it?

Or is there more that I am missing here...other than the misspoken tidbit about only having 5 gears?

Where are you pulling that 98% number from?

I shift smoothly in this car all the time. I also have bad days where I don't. More bad days than I do in my other comparatively soft Mazda3, but that's what happens when you have a clutch that is more of a light switch than it is progressive. It's not surprising that an aggressive, grabby clutch with limited feedback like in our car doesn't lend itself to easy shifting or that the driver needs to pay more attention to being smooth, but don't go around saying no one can shift smoothly. Many of us can. Many of us do. Many of us don't blame electronic nannies on days when we don't.

I have driven many manual transmission's in my life, and the MS3 is the "trickiest" to shift smoothly with. Not saying that you can't shift smoothly, its just harder to. The car also seems to have it's "days".

I agree. Some days my MS3 is a joy to drive; on other days it just seems to be fighting me every step of the way. I've never experienced anything like it in any other car I've owned.

Quite possibly the FUNNIEST response I have EVER seen
