Official Ford Focus RS & RS500 Thread

God that car is sexy. I would definitely pimp one of those around town. *cream*

RS Considered for U.S. Sale

If they're considering it, it's a big possibility since the euro focus will be making it's way here in a year or so anyway. Plus ford isn't under the government gun like GM. I'd say buhbye ms3...haha.

Ford may add a 300-plus-hp Focus to its U.S. lineup.

The Focus RS, a three-door hatchback sold in Europe, is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder Volvo engine with 305 hp.

Hermann Salenbauch, Ford Motor Co.'s director of advanced product creation and global performance, says the decision to sell the Focus RS here will depend on reaction from U.S. car enthusiasts, such as Focus SVT owners.

Ford is looking for "feedback from the media and customers," he says. "How much do they like it? Is it really what they want? We are pretty confident that it is."

The restyled, Europe-engineered 2011 Focus goes on sale here in late 2010, replacing the current model. The car will be assembled in North America. The RS model for the United States would be based on that platform, Salenbauch says. He did not say when it would arrive.

The three-door Focus SVT, a high-performance model, was discontinued during the 2004 model year. It had a $19,205 sticker, including shipping. Salenbauch says an RS model would be priced higher.

British magazine AutoCar published a gushing review of the Focus RS: "Remortgage the house, rob a bank, sell yourself, sell your own grandmother, just do whatever it takes to put an RS on your drive."

I would be all over it like white on rice, assuming it's as good, or better, than the current European RS (and I like the styling of the new Focus).

I would seriously consider one if it made it to our shores. Just wait till dealers get ahold of them, and tack on $4k.

See, if they bring it over, Ford should do the novel move (with all their cars) and freeze price markups. No 'market adjustments' allowed.

They might actually build some of these over here, IIRC one of the plants was being retooled to build the global platform Focus in the next year or so.

The legend of the performance econo-box Focus SVT is getting closer for a return (lol2). Problem is that the car companies R&D centers in Michigan (and California) get a lot of hot test models from Europe and else, problem is, if and when!

Not only was that spotted in Michigan (Royal Oak), it was also noted (and an interior photo taken) that it is left-hand drive. The original post can be found on a "different" online forum site.

Ford does sell the RS in left-hand drive markets. You can see the steering wheel in acouple of the pics. Do you have the story to go with these pics?

German, French, Italian DM perhaps? Please note that this still the abroad model, it does not yet have i.e. the mandatory CAFE/NHTSA/IIHS side flares (red and orange)

Ford is famous for that, they also brought the S-Max to the US once for testing, but never flew

Essentially they could build a new RS in one of the three converted plants to US spec and sell it (hopefully) for a 25k price point. With them owning less in Mazda, they won't be offended if it steals sales from the MS3 either.

I guarentee it'll be closer to 30K than 25K

I got some news from a source of mine, he's working on parts for an intercooler setup for the 2012 Focus platform. All of his projects are domestic projects, and there's no plan for any other FI Focus aside from the RS. I'll leave you with that...

That cant be true. By 2013 Ford wants 90% of their cars to be Ecoboosted. That would damn near require the focus to get the 1.6 or 1.8L Ecoboosted 4s...
