what is going on, BC coiloers make noise

:
2001 Mazda MP3
OK, installed the BC coilovers, front are doing fine, the rears are making noise. It sounds like something lose, but i just got back under their and everything is tight. Of course the instructions say that if the shock is too long the spring will be too lose, and i'm thinking that may be the case.

Just the smallest bump and it feels and sounds like stuff is rattling lose back their.

Thoughts?

well a rattle is a bit different, at least in my mind/ears it is. To me, a rattle is a bit of higher pitched repetitive tapping and a clunk is a deeper slightly less repetitive sound.

I am assuming you are talking about a clunk so it could be that something is not tight enough. Make sure that you look at the WHOLE suspension, not just the new coilovers. perhaps in the dis-assembly/reassembly process, you loosened something else?

everything is tight. It is literally 10 bolts or nuts. two for the sway, one for each control arm, two for each shock, and two for each shock mount... they are all tight as i just checked them...

is there a certain procedure for tightening up the control arm bolt? I.E. tighten up with the suspension loaded or unloaded?

ok, so it was "loose" the square frame for the shock bolt hole apparently compresses. ANd i grab the shock and realized you could move it back and forth, so i just cranked it down a little bit more. and no more noise. yay..
thanks guys, you can close this up mods!!

How many times did I tell you to check that damn shock bolt? I had the same problem, noise whenever I backed out of my driveway. About drove me nuts for a day until I get the car back on a lift.

yeah i know, it seemed tight, and i didn't want to strip it, then i realized that bracket or whatever compresses a lot. but thanks

mine did the same thing. i had the adjustment under the spring as low as it could go, but failed to adjust the strut down to match it, so the springs were kind of loose when they weren't compressed. i felt like such a dumbshit.

yea the preload for the rear has to be set. Apparently the BC instructions are very vague and don't exactly point this out

I am bumping this because I need help, I cannot find out how to adjust the rear struts to match the springs, I have never done coilovers before, so this is the only problem I am having. I am having noise coming from the rear, and the left rear is lower than the right rear, yet the spring adjustments are as low as they can go on both sides, so i am assuming it has to do with the struts. The strut has the threaded bolt at the base of it with a nut on it, how far down or up is this suppsed to go? I noticed my left strut i could spin it with my hand, so i know this is not right. Can someone please offer up how to adjust the rear struts, I am losing my mind.

Getting the same kind of clunk/rattle with my Mazdaspeed coilovers. What exact shock bolts were loose on yours?
