so interesting story...

since mazda doesn't like to touch after market wheels, they always send my wheel off to get a new tire on or anything an ect. so i've been taking it to my parents' dealer (Northgate Ford Lincoln mercury) here in tampa cause they are good friends with everyone in service an what not. an they always do a great job with my wheels balance an alignment an such. well i curbed the piss out of my rota torque few weeks ago so i bought a new one. it arrived today! i was so stoked cause it was so humiliating driving around with a ****** rim. so i took it there, and 2hrs later its ready to go. cool! well on my drive home i feel a flop in my front right wheel (the new one) so i think ****! are you serious? a flat? so i get over i was cruising at about 45mph and goto pull into a plaza well, a right hand turn an then BOOM! cars at a dead stop. so im thinking WTF?! well i get out (luckily i was able to halfway pull into the plaza, but still was blocking the entrance, but out of traffic) an my wheels facing completely 90deg. my lugs... nowhere to be seen. they ripped completely off. so as of now, the cars at the dealer an they are fixing everything and paying for the rental. i was on BLOX forged lugs also. just figured i'd vent... so how was your day? hah!

I would be PISSED! What if that had happened at highway speeds? Amateur crap like that gets people killed. You should milk that for all it is worth. Ridiculous.

ouuuuch!! they prolly didn't tighten the lugs tight enough....that sucks...

either that or being forged lugs they overtightened. cause the threads were all still left on there. just not the lugs haha.

yeah, i wasnt exactly too happy. all the works being done for free. and they are paying for the rental. they also ordered me all new forged BLOX lugs haha. but, our friend in charge at service let me know they fired the wheel tech because of this because obviously this is costing them out the ass.

damn, they fired him? maybe it happened before also....

OUCH. Reminds me of those skateboard videos where a guy lands wrong & his ankle ends up pointing backwards, or his elbow bends completely backwards, etc.

Just for future reference, if you ever need wheel & tire work, alignment, etc. done, call Cars & Concepts. They have all the latest equipment, can handle lowered cars without a hassle, etc. And they do great work. You need to make an appointment ahead of time, because they book up, but it's worth the wait.

They're at 4711 N. Manhattan, 2+ blocks North of MLK. 813-348-6183. Yeah, it's in Drew Park, but don't worry- the hookers don't bite unless you pay extra.

Are they doing the body work too? Looks like you need a new fender and they'll have to blend the door and hood for the paint match.

That sucks man, you're more patient than I.

Best of luck!

Man, that is messed up on so many levels. Glad you were OK. But that's craptacular! Hope everything gets fixed to your staisfaction.

How much extra ????

So wait, your lug NUTS came completely off of the studs?

Your repeated misuse of the word "lugs" has me confused...(dunno)

yes, they came off completely. and all the body works being done. their body shops really good so all should be well.

may good karma come back to you 10x.....i would have blown a gasket and ripped someone's head off

the studs are there its just the lug NUTS that came off due to not being torqued. if they'd been overtightened the threads would have been stripped off of the lugs (aka wheel studs)...

I gotcha.

...and just FYI, there is no such thing as a "lug."

There are "lug nuts" and "lug bolts."

The term "lug" is NOT interchangeable with the term "wheel stud."

Sorry...just a little pet peeve of mine. ;)

To the OP, I'm glad to hear the dealership is doing their best to make things right. Hopefully you won't be without your baby for too long...

Dictionary.com:

lug2 /lʌg/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [luhg] Show IPA
–noun 1.a projecting piece by which anything is held or supported.

sounds like a wheels stud to me...

Touche.

Regardless, this is all semantics. I worded my sermon hastily...

Perhaps I should have said, "You should avoid using the term 'lug' to refer to a wheel stud, lug nut, or lug bolt, since it could be interpreted to mean any one of those things, which are all very different objects. Instead, please refer to the descriptor that specifies exactly what you mean to say. Thanks."

;)

:p
