is this deal possible on an 09 MS3?

I have a 2008 altima 3.5 SL, 15K miles, all standard features plus a rear spoiler. Max trade-in value on KBB in Excellent condition is roughly $19K. I have $2K cash,,,, so $21 and that is all I have. no financing.

I would like an 09 MS3 GT,,,,,,,, I checked the pricing though and it seems like $25K msrp, $23K invoice.

Do you think there is any possible way I could haggle them down to $21K for the 09 MS3 GT?

thx!

Yeah its definitely possible. Might be a little harder to get them to give you full trade in on your car. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, but they always try to fight you on that.

Discuss deal first, then trade.

Edit: Its a factory spoiler right?

They dont seem to deal too much on this car, I was able to get $500 off invoice. They didnt offer S plan pricing at the time though so I dont know what you may be able to talk them to now. Depends on how much they want to sell a car I guess.

do this -

send out a mass email 1st to all the dealers in your area that your willing to drive to stating you want an 09 ms3 with what ever options you want. you want everyone's best price and whoever that is gets your business. state your trade in and you want the best trade $ possible..they'll all start emailing you...keep them all in the loop by replying with all address in the to window. they will fight with eachother believe me! i had a guy i work with do this and ..he got the car down to 1300 below invoice in a matter of a few hours. basically he did the deal at work w/o talking to anyone on the phone.

Don't tell them anything about your trade being paid off or the $ you have down.

try it -

^^^ +2 Good idea!

yeah I think its possible but it might be a little hard. Their motivation to move the 09s is going to be low since they are new. Also keep in mind that KBB value is MAX trade in value. The dealer will most likely tell you they use a different system and won't offer you the 19K for it. You might call your insurance company and see what the value of the car is. Their numbers will be very very accurate.

That said, try the follwing things.

Go at the end of the month. This is when they try and move more cars. If you wait till you a 3 day weekend with some big sales that could help too. Make sure you have done your research, you know the car, and are clear about what you want. It should be clear to the dealer that you know what you are after and have the research under your belt. Make sure the dealer understands you will with out any doubt be buying the car, if not from him then someone else. (even if its not true...lie) Tell them you are willing to make a deal on the spot, done deal if they meet your price.

Price is often dictated by timing, and how quick you are willing to do biz. The dealers have numbers they need to make. Make sure you don't get soft on them and let them try and talk you into deals that you don't want.

Be knowledgeable
Don't give in
Make sure its clear you don't NEED to buy a new car.
Remember when you step on their lot, you are on their turf. Make it yours, run the conversation. Watch out for comon sales tactics.

Don't be afraid to say no and walk away if you don't get the deal you want. Infact, you might have to walk away more then once. ALways leave your number though, when things get tight they might change their mind and give you a call with your offer.

Dont forget about warrenty's and all that other bs. My car was 22OTD, then I had a trade in of 3k. Well with taxes, tags, and all that other bs not to forget warrenty went back up to 23OTD. This was 2 weeks agoish....

Got a Car Max near you? They usually give the best offers to buy your vehicle. Sell it to them and use it towards the MS3, or take Car Max's written offer with you to the dealer, and when it comes time to talk about trade ask them to match it. Thats what I did for the ms6 and they agreed to match the trade.

sport6 said... negotiate the price first then talk about trade in. If not they'll try and work what they lose on the trade into the price of the vehicle.

That is probably the best advice you will get, I did the same thing except over the phone. I saved about 1k because I eventually went out of state to Delaware to get my car when the guy through the offer beating all Maryland dealers.

no matter how you crunch the numbers, trading in a 08 for a 09 you will screw yourself big time. very poor idea moneywise. trading in a 08 for a MS3 though, is a brilliant idea and only the most dimwitted moron would even worry about the money lost!!

I had another though, for this one you will need some tools.

You will need:
1 Bunny
1 Box
1 Sharpie marker.

Put the bunny in the box, and use the sharpie to write the word "bunny" on the outside of the box. This is just a friendly reminder incase you forget whats in that box thats sitting on your passenger seat as u drive to the dealer.

When you go into the showroom bring the box with the bunny in it with you. If the dealer makes you an offer you like, go for it. If he doesn't its time to use the tools you brought with you.

What yer gonna want to do it open the box and grab the bunny by its ears. Pull it out and hold it up so everyone in the show room can see. Next you are going to want to reach your hand behind your back and grab the gun that is tucked in the back of your pants. Pull the gun out, its important to make sure there are bullets in it.

Now the next part is important. Put the gun to the bunny's head, and start yelling. I mean you really need to yell. Shout things like "If you don't sell me that car for X dollars right now this f-ing bunny is going to get his f-ing brains blown all over this show room"! It is very important that you swear. A lot. It also helps if there are children watching. Shake the bunny viciously at them and ask them if they like bunny stew. Fire a shot or two into the air to let them know you mean business.

If anyone approaches you pistol-whip their ass into submission while screaming at them "why do you f-ing want me to kill this poor f-ing bunny!? do you f-ing want me to kill him!? why the F would you want that? if this bunny dies its your f-ing fault!!"

You may need to improvise a bit here and there, but the general idea is; If you don't get the price you want, murder the damn bunny. Just keep re-asserting that fact and eventually they will come around.

Anyhow, yeah that should work.

thx for the good advice. I will see what I can do.

ps - yes it is a factory OEM spoiler.

pss - some of the off-color strange jokes in this thread were strange. oooooooooook then. spend more time on mods or something. hehe

I'd find out how much the dealer is willing to pay for the car first. KBB on an Excellent condition car is usually way more than a dealer will pay. Chances are also likely that you're overestimating the condition of your car. Excellent is near show-car quality.

EDIT: Also, most dealers will not drop below invoice on an MS3. They don't sell enough to make it worth doing that for them, and they already lose money selling it AT invoice. Then again, times are tough :P

The natural and appropriate thing to do is have them fight to death for your business. Tie their left wrists together and give each one a knife. The only rule is whoever dies first, loses!

If they are reluctant to do this, remind them that times are tough, and you gotta do what you gotta do to make a sale.

i just forwarded your tirade to my buddies. Thanx to you, there's lots of ppl in internet land laughing their asses off right now and blowing off much-needed work...

you will probably at most get offered 12-13k for your car. sure, people are buying used cars but they aren't going to be able to market a 3.5L v6 now a days. when i was buying my ms3, i had my 2005 accord v6 coupe special edition with 13,000 miles on it. KBB had it at 19,700 in excellent condition @ 13k mileage and trust me the car is in beautiful condition. after i had negotiated the price on the car and everything i told them i wanted to trade in my older car as well and then i think i waited/haggled for about 2 days regarding JUST the trade in value of my car. the highest they offered was 14k which still was WAY too much of a loss on a car that i could still sell privately for probably around 16-17k.

cliff notes: do not EVER be optimistic about trade in values. its usually always -3/4k of what KBB says it should be.
