well guys, I am now the happy owner of a white 99 miata, complete with the bose package, YAY!

I have two issues though, one a CEL due to the cat,
and
two I'm having a little bit of trouble putting the top down on the miata, it is a bit of a struggle, is this common?

what can I do about that cat? could I do the nonfouler trick and just toss in a straight pipe?

what are common reasons behind miatas and check engine lights? I have a 99 now and originally it seemed the plugs and wires were bad, that was taken care of, but the check engine once again has reared its ugly head, so im thinking an injector is going out, thoughts?

Have the code checked, if you haven't. I've owned Mazdas for many years and have found that the CEL can come on for no obvious reason and go back off, after a while. Have the code checked for peace of mind, though. It could be something more serious. I've always been one to look at the gauges, listen to the engine, etc. If all is well there, the engine is most likely OK. If the light continues to come on, I'd get it checked out.

everytime i check it it seems to be catylitic threshold below efficiency. The only time it was different was a misfire. Im hoping it might just be the cat, because if so Im thinking if punching it out and tossing in a resonator.

Do they do emmissions tests in CO? I would think it would be a "green" state and would require the cat to work. Just curious. I'm no expert, by any means. I wonder if punching out the cat would also trigger another code. I don't have cats in my Miata because of the swap and get no codes. I wonder if there's a way to bypass that code and keep the CEL from coming on. I know that little light can be annoying. When I had the LT1 RX-7, the airbag light would come on. There was no airbag. I was going to disconnect that as one of my winter projects; but, I sold the car, instead.

it depends what city your in. the springs, emissions free. Hence why Im looking to do that to my car. Im just not a fan of harsh buzzing.
