factory navi is a worthless option

I'm waiting for cell phone nav (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.) that is just as good as the standalones and reroutes based on real-time traffic conditions. Until then, printed Google Maps it is for me!

I use my AT&T BB8800 all the time and love it. won't reroute based on real time traffic, but it does warn you well ahead of construction or accidents enough that you can then reroute yourself.

I had the built in Navi in my last Accord and hands down loved it, consider it the best system out there, but would never spend the money on it again. Portable Garmin and my 8800 are more than enough.

Back when I was buying my car, they had my car (in white) and the show room car (in black). The showroom car has all the options mine has, plus homelink and nav. At the time, I was like "why the **** would I want this s***. I already have a Garmin and a garage door opener." But now, about 7 months of ownership later, I kinda wish I would have gotten those options. I don't like having my Garmin sitting in my dash while I'm driving, so unless I need it (which is rarely) I just keep it in the center console. However it'd be nice to just pop open the OEM nav and do my thing. What killed it for me was the price. **** paying $1000+ for navigation. I may try to fabricate my garmin into my dash sometime.

Yeah my bad. Still better than $300. Its really only useful if you're upgrading from B or earlier since there are some new features not present in the older ones.

also keep in mind you need a dvd burner capable of burning dual layer disks and have some quality dual layer +R disks laying around.

updated maps from garmin are $100+ every year as well. i think mine has maps from 2006. still works just fine most of the time. things don't change that much that quickly and if you're looking for something on the map pull out google maps on the phone, find a nearby address and plug that into the gps

I have a Garmin 205, which I know is the cheapest Garmin right now but oh well.

The thing is useless in the city. Absolutely useless. Any town just outside of boston it still considers boston. Washington St in actual Boston and the thing will bring you to Newton.

Aside for getting us lost everytime we try in Boston, it works outside of the city.

I bought an external dvd burner like 5 years ago and it was dual layer. I also tested several different discs and they all worked fine.

OEM navi actually hurts resale value. think of it like a PC you can't upgrade. by the time you are going to sell the car or trade in, it's an old outdated 486 running DOS 6.2 stuck in the dash that is non upgradable and undesirable.
