What have you done to your P5 today?

So i went to checkers and when i plugged it in it said that the vehicle is not responding. The checkers guy suggested that i check all my fuses. but still no avail. anyone else ran into this problem? (with the OBD port?) i tried to reset the ECU to see what happens. CEL went off but im sure itll come back again..=(

i've never heard of plugging it in and not getting a code. if you come up to mililani i can let you my scan tool, and maybe get a code and see where you can go from there. and yes the engine lite will come back.

Yea i think that their scan tool was broken. it was all busted up. with tape and what not. lol Thanks for the offer. looks like im gonna go down and buy one for now. (im probably gonna need it in the future anyways.) Where did you get yours?

anyone know th actual clearance for a p5?? i have the book and it is confusing at hell it sayyysss....

Standard [Engine cold]
IN: 0.225—0.295 mm {0.0089—0.0116 in}
(0.260.035 mm {0.0100.001 in})
EX: 0.225—0.295 mm {0.0089—0.0116 in}
(0.260.035 mm {0.0100.001 in})

what the does the parenthseys mean?? is that the plus or minus variable... like in the gap??

im really starting to hate my girlfriend today... also.. i measured the shims i have since they all got dumped out.. and i think i am going to eyeball the adjustment from the valves to see which one is sticking out more.. but shouldnt they all stick out THE SAME DISTANCE when extended.. rather it be exhaust or intake?

well that is the book... where i am stuck is... i measured the shims and they all vary.. the intake side is higher then the exhaust for example...
exhaust cam side shim measurments
shim 1 shim 2 shim 3 shim 4 shim 5 shim 6 shim 7 shime 8
3.25 3.24 3.25 3.27 3.25 3.26 3.23 3.29

intake cam side shim measurments
shim 1 shim 2 shim 3 shim 4 shim 5 shim 6 shim 7 shime 8
3.30 3.30 3.31 3.30 3.31 3.32 3.23 3.34

my measurements may be off by a thousandth of an inch.. im re checking everything again.. i was shocked to see tehy arent all teh same.. but wouldnt the shims need to be in some sort of order or is that a standard that a few are going to be higher?

and YES i am making a how to for this seeing that im sure im not the ONLY one that has gone through this... and just because i want to contribute to the helping of others.. :-)
i love my mazda..

well the good news guys... i have narrowed it down to.... 5 shims not in the right place.. the valves section are all going to be even.. I need to take some pictures to explain this so you guys can see... anywho though.. The shims are all different in size.. and are going to clear different.. as long as the valves are all dropping into the cyclinder exually that should allow me to see what needs further adjustment from that side.. as to the not tapping of the top end.. i am going to have to remove my cams several times.. never the less... the feeler gauge shouldnt be too much of an issue as far as figuring out what goes where... just an update..

Got my new turbo and atp wga and 5 bolt exh gasket and studs but they sent me an ext wg turbo with 4bolt exh and t3 or t4 flange. Wouldn't this be a cause for question in most peoples heads??

Had a head gasket leak issue so it was a good excuse to send the head out for some work. Just got the head back from the machine shop this morning. Hope that everything gets back together late this afternoon. Almost there!
