Flashing Check Engine Light

So i temperatue up here in northern Ontairo has taken a bit of a Drop recently, and the other day, my check engine light went from being On, to Blinking. just curious what this means , or possibly could mean?

my engine light has been on since i bought the car, and never really caused me any concern, i believe it was turned on by one of the environment sensor things in the exhaust..

but the blinking is new, and has me slightly concerened.

then today, my car died while i was in a drive through... (fun i know) now as i mentioned it is extrememly cold here right now, so im hoping the whole car dieing is because my fuel Line froze, and hopefully it is completely unrealted to the blinking engine light..

hopefully someone knows what this could mean..

Thanks in advance, and for all the responses to my other posts.

that means take it in and stop driving immediately, my dad called the local madza dealer about a check engine light, and the guy said it was ok to drive for a little, but if it starts to blink, take it in ASAP...

A flashing CEL means that something is happening that will cause immediate and irreparable damage to your catalytic converter. In most cases it's a misfire and unburned gas gets dumped into your exhaust and ruins your converter. In this case, you should stop driving the car immediately. If not, I won't be surprised if you get a P0421 code in a couple of weeks telling you your cat is shot.

Its got to be 96+ Prot if the ck engine light is flashing. I dont think the older ones did that, ive never seen my one come on in my 91, and ive had alot unplugged running it once lol.

typically a multiple cylinder missfire. You didn't notice the car running like total crap before it died?
