Talking About The Speed At NLOC...

why yes, I have driven several mustangs...gts, cobras, v6s, etc...

none of them handle well out of the box

I'd rather buy a car that handles extremely well out of the box, then spend money on it's engine....I'd rather not dump thousands of dollars into suspension work to get it to handle well and have nothing left over for the engine

you said it yourself, it all depends on how much money you want to spend...to each their own, but I'd rather spend mine on a car with a fabulous suspension stock

to each their own...I'd rather be able to corner than go fast in a straight line lol

And you obviously don't know much about "Terminator" Cobras.

They have independent rear suspensions, and consistenly pull over 0.90g in magazine skidpad tests.

Not what I'd call a "straight-line-only" machine, even right out of the box...

EDIT***wow I walk away from the computer for 20 minutes and missed like 5 replies! (lol2)

then i guess you haven't drivin a mustang......
one of the best drifters in the world drives a sn197 stang, and you dont get anymore in control then when it comes to drifting. you can argue all you want, but the skill it would take to slide a corner with someone on your ass while holding 70+ is unthinkable to me.

and yes im an american guy at heart, but im into street cars also, and remember if you drive a MS3 u drive 1/2 Ford product anyway, so why down something that has potential and is in the fam.

Funny, Kazama, Taniguchi, Tsuchiya, Orido don't drive mustangs for drift cars. Oh..you mean American guys like Ken Gushi, Vaugnh Gitten. Oh..Ok

Any car will handle a corner if you throw enough rubber under it, but others cars just do it easier and feel better doing it.

BTW..Ford only imports and manufactures parts for the Mazdas. But do you think they had a say in designing the car..or any sporty mazda car. Mazda is the complete opposite of Ford. Infact, Mazda focuses on driver feel and great handling/fun, whereas Ford..not so much on any of there cars except Cobra R and Ford GT.

I'm tired of being labled as a Ford. I see a Mazda badge and thats what it is.

well my bad if you have drivin one, but we didnt specify out of the box, because to me the MS3 isnt the best out of the box handle either. traction is the biggest downfall of it. stock regular mustangs handle like boats, but dosen't take much to get them tamed.

love haters, its ok, we all do till we get ape rapped by something we dont like or expect. have to learn the hard way i guess. you can say cus its a mustang, but its def on a different level then a regular mustang or MS3 for that matter

uhh, ken gushi is asian...... but anyway i didnt say they design, and i didnt label you ford if you take so much offense to it, u just are sorry :) im pretty sure the concept of a hatchback 3 came from a hatch focus. but its all good, you all can love your own car its all good but im not biased so im gonna say the fact.

Think mazda would have made it through the 70's without ford?? nope

lol, by no means was I speaking about the speed3 or msp....despite the fact that I own a mazda I don't claim them to be something they are not

but if I were given 10 grand to spend on a mustang or on something with actual handling out of the box....such as an evo or sti....I'd gladly take the later than the former....not only is it a better handling car overall, but you can spend way more on the motor and still have a car that is faster and better handling than a mustang...for much cheaper than a terminator mustang lol

sorry, I'd just rather spend my money and get more bang for my buck, again to each their own

fixed

fords done nothing but suck the life and blood out of mazda in order to use it in their cars....the 70s would have been tough, but I guarantee you mazda would have pulled through it just fine

Mazda would have survived during the 70's thru the spirit of road racing alone.

You Ford haters need to realize that the Mazda 3's ENTIRE PLATFORM (the C1 platform) was designed jointly between Ford, Mazda, and Volvo, and is simply an evolution of the C170 platform used for the original Ford Focus.

never said I was a fan of that particular platform ;-)

I'm probably the only non speed3 owner in this thread lol

every car has its pitfalls...the speed3 is a little too bulky and heavy...the mustang cant handle out of the box unless you fork out some serious dough for a high end one, and even still it's iffy....the speedProtege can't handle power...and so on and so forth

it's all a matter of what you look for in a car....to most though handling is a lot more of a factor than sheer horsepower

overseas, yes, here don't think so. ford bought 27% steak in mazda, then another 20% in the 80's, you do the math. at one point it might as well had just been ford

and i looked it up, as was stated by sum one else the Axela line is based off of the focus line

this is pointless now, the fact is fact, and opinion is another thing that has nothing to do with reality

just because ford bought stake in mazda does NOT mean that ford was the reason mazda survived...they would have survived whether or not ford bought them, and they probably would be quite different (probably for the better) than they are today

that generation is one of my favorite mustang gens. i think all the other ones are ugly (minus a few select years and models like the 60's fast backs, and even the new ones redesigned for either '09 or '10). and those svt wheels rank up with some of my favorite factory wheels, along with chrysler srts and bmw M wheels

as for liking mustangs in general....mmm thanks but no thanks. after reading article after article of mustangs being compared to camaros, and chevy always coming out on top, it made me not like mustangs. and i sure as hell wouldn't pick a camaro over anything, or the firebird.

last gen camaros = *pukes*

I concur.....

With all monetary issues aside what car would YOU drive within a reasonable price range.. Lets say up to 65k. It has to be road legal and have the ability to be driven daily..

Mine:
-2009 White M3, Coupe Hardtop.

Or

-A Brand New (impossible, it'd have to be used) MKIV* Electric Blue Golf R32 with a HPA Twin-Turbo System installed..

Or

-A Used '05 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe in Jet Black with a set of Black BBS RR's in Black..... Skeeet!

Edit-- Yes, I do LOVE German vehicles!

65k? lol that isn't really 'reasonable'....but if I had that range I would definately concur with you on the m3

for 65k I'd get the e90 (400 hp...awesome lol)
for 'reasonable' (which I'd say is sub 30k) I'd be torn between the e46 m3, evo 9, and sti....which this IS my current delima haha

I have yet to get to drive any of the three, but they are all the top candidates once I sell the msp (just gotta finish the build first)....so once that time comes closer I'll be test driving quite a few haha

30k id buy a pos honda, cut the firewall to fit a ZR1 Ls9(if i could find), strap some wings and fly the **** away

lol, if we are talking 30k including mods I'd pick up an IS300 and turbocharge it....if only it weren't for the damn transmission being weak in the IS300 I'd do that as my next project lol, but alas I can't afford to turbo it and upgrade the transmission (and possibly the motor as well 0.o)

actually to be quite honest, if I had 30k to spend I'd get a roller RX-7 FD and drop a triple rotor single turbo into it =P
(yea, I ain't sacreligious haha)
