Is that the same for all new Mazda's sold in Canada? One would expect Mazda Canada to be able to offer block heaters if they can offer day time running lights I suppose (not looking for trouble here), but imagine how much in costs it would potentially save them in warranty claims because of long term cold cranking damage.
I had a block heater installed this fall (Oct 2008) by the dealer in my 2003 P5. The install ran me about 125 bucks but they had the parts on hand and it was done in a morning.
And the block heater is also no longer available. I have one and love it on those really cold nights, although I have to say that I used it a lot more when I lived north of Timmins.
They may not be totally necessary, but they sure are nice to have.
