Opinions on a Carbon Fiber Look..

Weight reduction will help braking, handling and acceleration though

So will better brakes, suspension and a massive turbo!

Thats why I like it just for looks, the amount of weight reduction is really....... just...... it won't EVER make a noticable difference in anything. If you take out all your seats, your sub, spare tire and have 3lb lightweight drag rims then you will feel a difference but not just a simple 20 lbs.

Are there any special offers right now such as eyelids, any coupons, etc? I found the little dropbox on the right side to convert the prices to US $$ but according to the currency converter $550 CAD would be $441.38 USD, and on the site when it converts it, it shows $456.83. How much is customs usually?

There are no other specials at the moment. As I mentioned in my PM reply to you, those currency sites represent what the currency is presently trading at, they do not take into account premiums that banks charge for exchange, etc. If you can get a better exchange rate with your credit card, I'd recommend paying in CAD that way instead.

There is a 21lbs savings in the hood alone and probably close to the same with the trunk so underestimating the weight loss in the trunk I'll say there is a 30lbs savings in doing the both of them. That's a really good amount for a car this size.

My reference for this is Sm76's "Protege Weight reduction" thread
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123663837

dude....I hate to say it...If you were lucky..there might be a 10lb weight difference....I have had three hoods....FG And CF and Had my Trunk off more times than you can count when I had my car.

I bet the trunk Barely Weighs 30-35lbs....Tops....SO I have a hard time believing it is 21lbs. lighter than the OEM one in a CF version.

Regardless...20-30lbs of savings is not noticiable on a car.

CF is Purely COsmetic pieces for MOST cars period.
Not a weight saver....not a performance part....Its for cosmetic purposes and and the "look"..Plain and simple.

I have have likely had More CF than anyone Here....Hell...Half of my Bike is CF....Is it for Weight savings...Nope.
There is none...But it flat out looks Bad Ass.

like I said Im only using SM76's info for the weight. I'm assuming he used a scale
to find actual weights and not what he thought were the weights.(dunno)

I couldnt of said it better myself.... I mean unless you are getting a ton (and I mean a ton) of stuff in carbon fiber then you wont see many benefits from the "weight savings" from the stuff. If I was you, Id go with just the hood and the trunk with the Speed Protege wing! I think that would look awesome and have always been a fan of that wing.

Between the Xcelerated Concepts hoods (reverse cowl) and the VIS:

Which one will allow more airflow?

I'm wondering about the reverse cowl, does it have some type of cover for the vents that bolts on the inside? I pmed CrazyCaker about this but haven't heard back yet.

The VIS is still tempting me because of the amount of airflow vs. the reverse cowl.

And just for the heck of it, I found this pic while cruising Google, shows the VIS hood and the Evo wing well.

i like the vis evo hood like i said before, my buddy has his for 4 years in direct sunlight all that time with no fadding or anything like that, i personaly like it cuz the vents are right above the turbo

Yeah, and that would be a plus for me.. that MAM mani I have heats up soooo quick and I'm going to have to get it ceramic coated soon so it keeps down most of the heat. I think I'll go with the VIS, I'll have my car covered except for when I'm driving (obviously.. (freak) ) so maybe that will help with preventing the fading also. I used to have a VIS hood but it was yellow/faded because it was not properly cared for before I got it. I saw on here somewhere about using black wax (or wax for dark cars) and that would help retain the original look also.

If you're that worried about it fading, go to a body shop right away and get it re clear coated in a UV stable clearcoat. I got the bumper, fender, and hood painted on a car I used to have, and 3 years later the painted part looks better than the factory stuff because the body shop used a really good clear coat...

Thanks for that tip, I think that's definitely what I'll do.

Alright, with the XC reverse cowl, there isn't any way to keep water from "draining" directly into the engine bay. CrazyCaker says that he hasn't ever had an issue with this, but I dunno how much I want water to just sit on my turbo, etc. in my engine bay every time it rains.. VIS has that vent cover thing that bolts to the underside, XC doesn't have anything like that. Opinions on that?
