OK...I just bought a 2006 ms6 today and i only recieved one key. It's the advanced keyless entry. Isn't there supposed to be a master key with a lock and unlock button??? Any help or suggestion would appreciate!! Thanks

I'm in the same boat. Bought mine back in october and it only came with one card (and the key stuffed inside it). Almost every dealership only require one key with the trade-in. The advanced keyless system did not come with a more traditional key/fob, just the cards. Only option you have is to order up another one, or just order another valet key (the little key stuffed inside) which the dealer will have to cut and program. As much as it sucks it is just another fine example of "business as usual". Anyways, congratulations on the new car, you're going to love it.

MAN..That sucks!! Well does any1 how much does it cost from the dealer to get the card one or the valet??? Thanks

You can check with onlinemazdaparts.com (authorized vendors always a plus) and see how much it would cost and find out from your dealer what they would charge for a cut and program if you brought in the blank. I wish I had a part # and cost for you since it's something I need to do as well, but it seems to have slipped down on my list of things to do.

I did come across this http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123660320&highlight=valet while looking into it myself, but I'm not sure if that's the right one (closest thing I could find with search). You may need to post a thread and find out from them.

i think it was around 250 for a new card and valet key plus dealer programming when I had to replace mine...

Thanks for all the tips guys....One more question for ya.... If i press on the lock button on the card key, is it supposed to lock??? I try pressing on it but nothing happens...I can only lock the car manually with the key.

if the car is running you wont be able to lock it with the card. FYI i got a key card from ebay for about $70, works fine and a blank valet key will run you about 50 at the dealer

I know what your saying, i try to lock my car with me outside and the car not running but it still won't work....Or am i'm doing it right???.. It would flash a red button on the card key not but happens. BTW doesn't the door automatically locks it self after 30 sec. If it does, then why does my door does not lock??? Manufunction, Reprogram the system???? I appreciate for the help....Thanks

Your battery may need replacing. When I got my car (used), the range on the advanced key was terrible, so I just always left it in my pocket and only used the little button on the driver's or passenger's door, or on the trunk to lock/unlock. Since I replaced the battery about a month ago, the range is much better and now I can just beep it from in the house or from far away.

The auto-lock thing has to be programmed to operate by the dealer. Mine is not set up and I'm not planning to bother with it. I like the door button just fine, and I can be sure it locks.

Oh, and when I bought mine it had 1 advanced keycard (+valet key) and one plain regular sized Mazda key, with no fob or remote. I think the keycard and the flip-out keys work on a different system and can't be used together (that was what I was told), so you either need another keycard or just get a plain blank Mazda key cut.

same here. i would check and c if its the sensor/module that needs to be replaced. i read somewhere that they tend to go bad from time to time.

They dont have to program the key thats total BS my dealer tried telling me that too but the car will turn over with just the card and no vallet key or with the valet key and no card. They are totaly trying to rob u and the cost out here in CT i think was 85 bucks for a new card and key

(upyours)

If they don't have to program it then how does that stop me from walking up to your ms6 and with my key card and starting it up and driving away?

You don't need both keys to run the car, but most people like having both for the convenience and peace of mind of having a manual backup if their advanced card dies for whatever reason. Both keys do have to be programed however. Get in your car and try to start it with the wrong advanced card and you'll get a whole lot of nothing. It's even worse if you try to start a modern car with a standard metal key (like the valet key) that hasn't been programed. The car will shut down the fuel system as a security measure and you generally play hell getting it started again with a programed key or the advanced key.

The valet key dose not need to be programed! however, the card key dose. so if you just need a valet key you shouldent have to pay for "programing"

if you want a seconds key go back to the dealership and speak to the sales person, he ask him to get you a second key or split the cost for a second key.

The programming I was talking about was for a new card and you replied that having to program a new card is BS. I think myriad was just reinforcing what I said and not trying to say you need to program a valet key. With the advanced keyless entry the valet key is in the card and pulls out. It doesn't have any lock or unlock functions or programming chips

I agree the card has to be programed! my dealer said I had to pay for programming just for a new valet key. That is BS

Yes, I was backing up your point, but I was also stating that the valet key does in fact need to be programed. Modern cars have a passive security system built right into the wiring... it is commonly referred to as an immoblizer system which disables your fuel system. On the sports with the flip out keys there is an embedded chip (separate from any keyless circuitry in the fob part) that is scanned whenever you put in your key and start the car. If you start the car without a key that was programmed for your car (actually by your car) the car will not receive the code it is looking for and disable your fuel system. That chip is also in the valet keys for the sports as well as the GTs (as is the passive security system). You don't have to pay your dealer to program your valet key for you, but you do have to have 2 (that's right, 2) programmed keys for your car to be able to program it yourself. Most people that need to program a new valet key on the GTs are doing it because they are replacing a missing key and therefore don't have the 2 keys needed to do it themselves. That's why most people end up having to have their keys programmed at the dealer because mazda (or really any manufacturer for that matter) has to pull up your vin and run it through whatever machine it is that does the same thing as your car when it programs a new key. You can google the tech page for directions on how to program the keys for this car yourself. If anybody still doubts the fact there is a chip in the valet key, you are more than welcome to stop by your local locksmith shop and have him cut a standard metal blank to match your valet key and give it a try for yourself. I'm fairly sure he would do it just to get a quick chuckle as he watches your car sputters out faster than you can spit out a string of obscenities.
