My 84 VW Build

Are the rabbits as easy to put on their side as my old 85 jetta? BTW I loved that little 8v 4 banger! No power but was smooth and fun to drive for some reason or another.

definitely not, this thing handles like a beast, or at least it will once im finally done with it

takin the parts in today and should be bored out and honed by friday...hopefully lol got to order the clutch and the exhaust today :)
i keep remembering to order parts after i just made an order...theres so many things on this car that need to be replaced i keep forgetting lol

got alot of work...and so little time, i hope i get it done

K got some work done on it, but sadly it was the last day i can work on it till monday, thanksgiving break and whatnot lol
well here are some camera phone pics of what all we got done so far, which was put in the intermediate shaft, measure the oil clearances, torque down the crankshaft, and attach the pistons to the rods

before,( and that was after some heavy sandblasting)

my block is the smallest one :( lol

shiny!

all torqued down

I've had several A1 chassis VWs.

The aftermarket now is HUGE. Back when I had mine, it was not.

I see two SBC blocks..... Good luck with your build man!! Your farther is going to love it.

k so this build thread is pretty much a failure after i tell you guys what just happened

We finished torquing down the crankshaft and the intermediate shaft, put the rods on the pistons, put ALL the rings on there, measured the oil clearance torqued down the first connecting rod
turned the crank and WTF!!! IT HITS WHERE THE OIL PUMP BOLTS ON TO AND IT HITS THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT DEAD ON
So now im pretty much done working on the engine, i have to take it downtown to the automachine shop and have them finish machining and building it

this ****** sucks....well i guess i can still post some updates every now and then, but its going to be alot slower...since i dont have the block anymore

oh and i got my new SS 2.5 exhaust, the clutch kit, new distributor and cap, and still waiting on my header and accessories for it
Man i hate when things go wrong, but it always happens

damn man.. sorry you hit such a big snag in your build.

I had a lot of really high hopes about some cool pics in this thread.. Keep us posted anyway.. I think there are a lot of old school rabbit fans here :)

Dont let the engine snag you up. Just work on body, suspension, interior or whatever till the engine is done.

Well everything turned out alot better then i hoped! A local Machine shop machined the block to fit the crank so i got it all together now :D

subbing now......

sorry to hear about your problem!
-R
fixed now and cant wait to put it into the car

Sweet build! Did you say it was an 8 or 16 valve?
8V Fuel Injected 1.8L stroked to a 2.0L

Yea the body is going to need a ton of work, suspension should be the last on the list, im just trying to get it running lol

^^^Nice. Good to hear you got it back together. Nice pullies. That is quite a unique engine being that the intake and exhaust ports are on the same side of the engine. Don't know anything about VW's. Does it sit inline or side to side in the engine bay? And when is it going in the car?

yea its a pretty dumb design, the hot exhaust mani heats the intake mani so pretty much the engine is takin in warm air...kinda dumb

but all those pullies sit on the passenger side and the intake and exhaust are in the rear of the engine bay
we are going to try to get it in today, then tow it back to my house so i can get all the wires hooked up, hopefully i can remember where everything goes lol

bumpo!!!!

couldnt get the engine into the car today, it was the last day too
we had everything done, but turns out that the one thing that could go wrong, did
we couldnt freakin find the pass side motor mount anywhere, so now i have to order a new one and try to get the engine on by myself
should be fun lol

oh and i got my header, ss bolts, brace kit, and hi flo cat
and im tryin to clean everything up real nice now that i dont have a time limit, the tranny is a b**** to get clean, so much crud on there its ridiculus

Judging by VW's intake/exhaust design, they probably put it there. lol

thanks :)
ordered some random parts today, ill take alot of pics when all the stuff comes in and on install day
but as of right now, im just going to be cleaning up the tranny and painting some parts

major bumpage, i started working on this beast again cuz im home for a week and a half so why not

here are some posts copied from the 152

well apparently spiders and a shitload of wasps decided to make there home in the engine bay, so i spent a good 20 mins trying to get them out, almost died but its good now
oh and thanks for the info about the hoses, @handsome, i do have a overflow tank, its the ugly stock one and it reaches all the way across the engine bay (why? i have no idea) so im thinking about buying a universal aftermarket one and mounting it right next to the rad.
on to the pics

rust that needs to be cutout (have repair panels)

VW003.jpg

interior lol i have no idea how the blanket got in there, but the interior is completely stripped minus dash, carpet and door panels, thats pretty much how its going to stay for the most part

engine bay, very dirty and not completed at all, anybody want to post pics of there engine bay to help me out with the wiring? specifically the front by the oil filter housing, that would be great

well any info you guys have can help me tremendously, i really have no knowledge of these MK1's, ive spent most of my time on my mazda lol
thanks

so far i have just been working on rust repair, which blows
there's a hole rusted in the hatch, the whole underside is coming apart, just gonna spot weld it back together in a few places, its not gonna be a show car so who cares lol

cut out a decent part of the rear 1/4 and its looking promising, will post pics of the carnage when im done for the day

anybody with any info on wiring these engines please help me out, i have no clue which wire goes where lol

well the engine is done so i just have to focus on all the other s*** now lol
