One step colder what?

So Ive read that its a good idea to switch to the 1 step colder plugs. Just wondering if someone could explain exactly what these are and how do you tell which ones are 1 step colder. I was looking to purchase some off a vendor but I have no idea what ones are what. Thanks for any help.

Will those plugs be beneficial with my mods ? I dont really notice any hesitation I dont think . . .

colder plugs help smooth out the powerband and acceleration curve. modifications like this and the HKS amplifier really help smooth out and bump up power in the mid and top rpm ranges

Do those come gaped already or will I need to do that?

you will want to check the gap before installing them. very easy to do, i can assist with that if you like.

So if I order these plugs you could just gap them and throw them back in the box? That would be sweet man. Not that I dont know how to do it or that I dont want to cause I know how simple it is. The fact of the matter is that I work on the railroad so I pretty much live out of hotels so I have no garage and just a 50 piece snap-on tool kit in my trunk with no plug gapping tool. So yea. If you could do that, I will order ASAP. Hit me back on here or PM me.

you can get a gapping tool from any auto parts place for less than $5. it really isn't that hard. And if these plugs are platinum they don't need to be gapped. they actually tell you not to gap them...

Because you'll rub the little bit of platinum, silver, iridium etc off of them (bang)

it does say that, but often times they do not come at the right gap for this engine

dumb question actually 2, what happens if they are not gapped properly, how will i know... and will be beneficial for my p5 non turbo. ok maybe one more what are the cons for a colder spark plug...

if a gap is too loose, you will not have as much a spark and it will blow out. you can achieve a hotter or delayed spark with this, but on a boosted car you want a tighter gap. you could cause serious damage this way and the car could run poor or idle poor.

is it useless to get a colder plug or a shorter gap on an NA car? and what would it achieve to have a hotter or delayed spark... that doesnt sound good...
also
by the statement above do you mean having a loose gap on a boosted car can damage the car.

i really have seen little to no gain on an n/a protege that was greatly affected by plugs.

Anyone have experience with the Denso ITV-22's? Those are rated one step colder as well, and have a closer stock gap than the NGK's. Stock gap should be between .030 and .032
