Christmas '08

Call me odd, but as I see it, if you're not celebrating it for its religious significance, you shouldn't be celebrating it. It's insulting to those who actually practice the religion.

Christmas really has little to do with religion nowadays. It's about coming together with your family and celebrating that you've made it through one more year. At least that's how it is for me. :)

Anycrap, here's a picture of our pups in front of the Christmas tree last year. First time we got a real tree and surprisingly the animals didn't bother it.

Great thread idea, Pam! :D

Cute pups........as always. :)

Sorry to here. Sounds like you had a bad experience in life.

Nah, my only really bad Christmas experience was working in a record store through the holiday and having to listen to that crappy music 8 hours a day for 2 months! (freak)

I just think it's hypocritical for people to celebrate holidays they don't believe in, just 'cause there are presents in it for them.

Anyway, I'll stop scrooging up your Christmas thread. :)

Enjoy it everyone! I'll be enduring it as usual.

that's like saying if you're not irish you shouldn't celebrate st patrick's day.

the only people in my family who are remotely religious are my grandparents. one side of my family my grandparents are dead but when they were alive my grandmother was religious. we all still celebrate it because it's one of the few times of the year where everyone gets together. not once can i remember any mention of religion at any of our christmas celebrations other than the grace my grandfather on my mother's side always says (but he does the same thing at thanksgiving so it doesn't really count).

it's a fun holiday to give gifts and see family. don't take it more seriously than that and you'll be good to go. if religious people want to take it more seriously then good for them.

Been there as well. I was a second key manager. Though I had full control on what I wanted to play in the store at times, so I rocked the house.

Luke and I bought our Christmas present early this weekend...they had Wiis in stock at the Target, so we picked up one of them, the nunchuk/thumb controller/steering wheel set, and Rayman's Raving Rabbids II. :)

I think we'll get the Christmas stuff out of the attic this coming weekend and figure out where the tree is going to go in the living room. The piano takes up most of one wall, plus the loveseat/couch take up most of the other side of the room. May have to move the wingback recliner into our bedroom or maybe the office...

yeah but fake trees suck. especially the ones with the lights already on it. next thing u know they are gonna come with ornaments...its like half the fun of decorating is gone. im big into the oranaments from hallmark and untangling the lights each year

"fun of decorating"??

i would kill for a pre-lit artificial tree that already has ornaments on it!! :) it would be great if it was spring-loaded so you just take it out of the box and it pops into shape. sort-of like a tent does. haha.

when i was a kid and lived with my parents i enjoyed it, but now-a-days, it's just work. my wife and I don't have any kids either, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I dunno, we don't have kids - but I really like decorating the tree. Luke, however, may not get enjoyment out of detangling the lights, finding the bulb that is burnt out that is affecting the whole string of lights, etc. :p

I love decorating for Christmas and we don't have kids either. In fact, we make it a lil' family celebration with my father-in-law across the street. We run back and forth from each other's houses asking if they've got an extra extension cord or if we have an extra set of lights. It's fun. :)

i havent decorated in the last 3 years. i lost the will once it was clear that every year we would just go to my aunts house for xmas dinner.

How many folks donate time or gifts during Christmas?

For the last few years we sponsor a family from my daughters school for Xmas. We find people around the neighborhood, friends and other families from her school to get necessities and a few gifts for each person.
I like to think this reminds us of the spirit of the holidays as welll as making me feel better about spending too much on frivilous things throughout the year.

One more week to tree shopping.

We do the Angel Tree program at work and also care package/letter drive for AnySoldier.com. I agree, it does help reprioritize the holiday season...there are a lot of folks who either don't have much and really could use a helping hand, as well as lots of folks who won't be with their families since they're serving our country...

I'll give money to the Salvation Army and I took up a collection for a gift card to help out a co-worker whose husband passed away recently. It feels good to help out when you can. :)

I don't mind the bell ringers. Yeah the bells can get annoying but they're only there for a month or so and they're collecting money for a good casue. :)

I don't think if you worked in an office where you can actually hear the bell all damn day long that you would feel the same way.

I was one of the salvation army bell ringers in high school. I did it for a weekend.

By the end of the second day, I was hoping that someone would toss a travel size bottle of bleach into the pot, so I could take it out and drink it.
