What have you done to your MSP today?

uhh, they are the same bro lol

Niiiiice....thanks. I feel stupid now. I spent a couple hours last night doin some research and finally realized that the part is the same. I just wasn't expecting the mid-pipe and j-pipe sections together when i ordered it. But it looks as if I'm good to go!!

^let us know what kind of diff it makes, take a clip for sound. which one did you get?

Well I just gave the engine bay a quick look-over during lunch and everything looks okay. I didn't get a chance to look over things last night because I got home and it was already dark. The only odd thing I noticed yesterday is that when I picked up the car at the shop it had 35 psi of fuel pressure but the car was cold and they said it hadn't moved since 10 AM (it was roughly 6 PM at this time). So that was odd - usually the fuel pressure holds for a little bit and then drops to zero as time goes on. I checked today at lunch and it said zero so everything is okay in that respect. I'll be picking up the washers after work today so hopefully those will do something.

What else would cause a random lean "spurt"?

I got the high flow cat mid-pipe with the j-pipe attached. I'll be installing it tonight!

egr

I had the same exact issue as you, thought it was related to the fans at first but quickly ruled that out after some research

I tried everything, vacuum lines, gaskets, o-rings.....none of it worked, however they were still good to replace and helped with other issues I was having

in the end I found out my egr tube wasn't sealing to the exhaust manifold properly...it was causing this SAME EXACT intermittent issue, on top of other issues for not sealing the system up properly....replaced the tube and tightened it down correctly, as well as cleaned out my egr valve, and it went away

clean your egr, I'll bet you it will fix your issues

^^^ That would have been my next step but the EGR hasn't been touched in some time. Either way, I'm almost certain I found the problem. My BRAND NEW TurboXS BOV does not hold vacuum! I tried blowing into it and it felt like air was escaping so I removed the BOV and attached it to my make-shift vacuum tester and sure enough, I couldn't get it above 10 mm Hg or 1 psi before it started falling off. I spoke with the site I ordered it from and they're sending me a new one tonight so I should have it tomorrow for install. They didn't have the regular Type H so now I'm going to have the Type H-RFL (so much for being somewhat quiet). Oh yeah, I bypassed the BOV and started the car to see how it idled and sure enough, it idled just fine for about 5 minutes. I just hope my new BOV holds vacuum or else I will be very unhappy...

just finished fabricating my own custom cat-less midpipe...my exhaust sounds a little bit more aggressive and now when i shift and boost into a new gear my turbo spikes to 8-8.5 and then settles back down to 6.5psi...has ne one else experienced this?

axis: yes, that is normal after installing that part, freeing up the exhaust allows the turbo to spool up quicker and thus causes the internal wastegate to not work as well...that right there is why most high performance cars use an external wastegate instead, because it is able to practically eliminate those kinds of spiking issues

it should fix it, but if it doesn't then clean your egr valve....the intermittency is what makes me think it's that because it is just too similar to my issue I had....even if it hasn't been touched, that is a very common part that needs cleaning to work properly, which I'm sure you've seen on here before

Yep, I cleaned my EGR valve about a year ago (around Thanksgiving last year) but I'll probably do it again here soon. What I really want to clean is the IAC valve but I don't have those special torx keys needed to remove the required bolts.

yea I'd like to do that too...I should get a set of torx keys myself, but I'd probably never use them lol

That's what's keeping me from doing it, LOL.

Well, I just spoke with another member here with a Type-H and he (2.0t03speed) said his also doesn't hold vacuum completely. Makes me kind of worried about the one I'm supposed to get tomorrow. Well, if it leaks I'm returning that one immediately, then calling TurboXS and bitching them out and then I have to find a new BOV. What else is out there other than Greddy and HKS? Everyone keeps recommending the HKS SSQV but I want to be different... I'll probably end up going with the black HKS if this next TurboXS BOV leaks...

dont get the hks, its a pos and sounds like crap/is extremely obnoxious

mine's diaphragm failed within a month after getting it and hks wanted 90 bucks to inspect it (which I would not see back)...then if THEY 'determined' that it was my fault they would do the work and charge me for it...I promptly said no

I recommend the synapse if you want to be different, I don't know any protege with it...or you could get a tial

I also really like the forge bov

My only problem with the Synapse is that it is so damned big! The sound is actually one of the reasons I didn't go with the HKS in the first place. Then again, if this next BOV works it's going to be crazy loud (Type H-RFL). I have to ask, did you buy the HKS new or was it used; old style or new?

bought it brand new, new style (the non-adjustable ones)

I was so pissed when it happened because I spent 250 bucks on it last year, at a time when I probably shouldn't have spent money on that, and then got screwed over by hks =\
