knocking when releasing reverse

So when i come out of my driveway every morning im hearing a knock comming out of what i think is the driver front side. This only happens when i press in the clutch to release reverse into neutral. I thought it only happened when the car was cold, but yesterday I heard it while the car was already hot.

Im not sure if this is coming from the tranny or if it's the suspension. i thought the slope of the driveway might have something to do with it but its happened upslope, downslope and in flat roads (no slope).

I have a service appointment tomorrow with and would like your opinion to what could be causing this problem.

Also, My sisters MS3 is not showing any of this, so i've ruled out the enviroment in which this is happening to mine.

I was going to suggest that it's the reverse lock-out popping back up, but if you hear it before you ever touch the shifter to shift out of reverse then that isn't the problem. Perhaps your shifter counter weight is contacting something, but again that seems unlikely if it's only when you press the clutch.

If it happens every time, your dealer should hear it and should be able to take a crack at it. Of course we all know how brilliant dealerships can be at diagnosing and repairing mysterious issues...

Good luck with it

I thought it could be the counter weight, but i failed to mention that i can feel a slight knock from the wheel when it happens. It is faint, but still noticeable.

thanks

It's always best to look at the simple solutions first. We tend to over think things some times. When I had a 04 Mazda3 5 door i would hear a knock everytime I came to a stop at the end of street. Turns out the stock brake rotor holes were sightly larger than the studs and would actually shift during braking. No lie! Not sure about the MS3 but take your rear wheel off and wiggle the rotor.
