How do you paint stuff on your intercooler???

Draw a stencil of the design and cut out the sections you want painted.

pretty badass but wouldnt that hurt the cooling aspect of it all?

If you use regular paint, sure. You can get thermal paint that from everything I've seen has no effect on temps when sprayed on intercoolers.

Even a very carefully applied coating will restrict the airflow. I wonder if that's necessarily a bad thing. I think I'd want mine to be the Starship Enterprise.

I had my intercooler on almost all of my old cars black and never saw any difference between the two. I have used both spray paint and high temp paint and both worked perfectly fine.

I dont think its airflow that it affects because the intercooler is part of a closed circuit. The only thing that it may affect is its cooling efficiency; however, it shouldn't make a difference... i think
