ALL Unichip Questions / Problems

Hey all I just wanted to post an update. Unichip Did finally get back to me but only after I had already called them....... LOL What ever. Anyways, They recomended that I do replace the Crank Angle sensor. This is due to the fact the chip has run fine for three years until now. Also the sensor costs about as much as a single hour of their labor.

Their labor rate is as follows :

FREE estimates on repairs. If you do not have it repaired you do have to pay to ship it back.

$85.00 an hour bench time. One hour minimum. Plus parts. Plus shipping fees.

$25.00 remapping fee if necessary. My understanding is if it is a mapping issue or you send your chip in to be remapped it is only the mapping fee you pay and shipping. No bench fee.

They said there turn around time does very depending on typical human resource issues. (availability of said parts, technician vacations, ect.) But normal turn around is a week or so.

I will post again when I have installed the new sensor and have drivin the vehicle a few days to test it out. It may be a few weeks before I do because of monitary issues.

manual boost controller install???

So I've decided that I'm going to do MBC and not EBC that comes with the unichip. My car runs great at low boost, but will not tolerate high boost unless it is HOT (fuel cut).

Question:

When I put on the MBC I plan to set it at 10psi, should I have the switch turned to high boost, low boost, or either because it won't matter since I unplugged the EBC.

Basically the question is...does the unichip change the fuel delivery based on the highboost/low boost switch setting? What do you guys think?

EDIT 2ND QUESTION:
The EBC of the unichip has 3 nipples (2 that follow the lines of the mbc as seen in this install guide)
http://joepmbc.com/mspmbc.html
The 3rd nipple goes to a T that is a line from the (injen) intake to the back of the engine.
MY QUESTION HERE: Do I just plug off this T? Or why does this EBC have 3 nipples and the MBC have just 2 nipples?

bump...

set the unichip to whatever setting you want, it doesn't matter if the EBC is not being used.

THANKS!

now any help here...

not sure why there are three but IIRC you only hook up one of the two to the EBC...or check the instructions that came with your unichip

OK, thanks for the help all (hmmm). So I installed the MBC, yes you just plug the third T, and no fuel cut!!! The weather was fairly cool today and normally on high boost setting I would have been slammed by fuel cut all day, but I continually boosted with spikes hitting as high as 13psi with no fuel cut at all, not once. So this was a much better way to go.(drive2) I highly recomend it if you are spiking too high on the EBC high level. Hopefully after a tune they can just adjust the boost level and I can go back to the dual stage EBC.

well I installed a used unichip yestereday set with stock tune on map A. I didnt bother to install the boost controller yet but when Im out driving and come to a stop, my idle drops to near stalling RPMs. what could be causing this. Also, is the unit supposed to increase boost just being installed, because Ive got no boost increase. Good thing, no fuel cuts or anything like that

mods are
injen cai
sls jpipe/midpipe-catted
thermal catback

thanks

yea, its got a label on the module that says stock and the guy I bought it from never had it retuned to go with his smic and all else he had done is intake and exhaust

i talked to him and he said the idle drop will go away as my ecu learns and adapts to the unichip. happened to him

yah, the idle drop will probably go away, the ecu is relearning the system. exact same thing my car does when I reset the ecu. MAKE SURE YOUR SWITCHES ON PROPERLY SET (unichip ON, boost doesn't matter cause it's not hooked up, and map A). <<<double, triple and quadrouple check the switches.

Also I had fuel cut CONSTANTLY on high boost, a week ago I switched to a cheap manual boos controler and fuel cut is gone...haven't hit it ONE time all week and I've mashed my foot to the floor 50 times trying to perfect what boost I want. I'm currently set to spike to 11psi and settle at 9psi. If you are spiking too high in high boost mode, I highly recomend a MBC.

id like to hook up the boost controller but after reading some people issues with huge spikes, has me kinda worried

also my map switch doesnt have a light yet the intructions say you know what map you are on based on the light so is map A l or O on the switch. Im assuming Im on map A being in the l position

forget the EBC that it comes with...its not reliable...get a good MBC or drop the cash and get a Greddy EBC

Ya, I spike 14 hold 11 on high boost with my Unichip, but I have a J&S and methanol, so I'm not too worried.

ur running meth?? how well does it work on our car cause i was thinking of getting it but my buddy bought meth for his car and i didnt notice s***. and what other mods do you have to get 14psi cause thats what im looking to run

Yes, I can definitely tell when the methanol kicks in.

I have basically every bolt-on except for an intake mani.

Crank angle code with unichip

Just another update on my Crank Angle problem. I replaced the sensor yesterday. The unichip still throws the code and the car won't start. Pulled the chip.... It fires right up. So, I guess I'm sending the Uni in.

The unichip "may" work for you. My advice...stay away it's not worth the hassel for your style of modified engine. Stay far far away. Go with a Microtech if your putting a highly modified engine together. Well worth the extra couple $100's in the long run.
