I know we're right in the middle of summer and snow is the last thing on our minds but I want to start thinking of getting a set of steel wheels to mount winter tires on for my wife's 2003 Protege5. I'm looking at either 15" or 16" steelies. Can anyone help me find them? Thanks.

.. Amazingly enough, I'm going to have a set of homeless 16" steel wheels within a few months.
I've been using them for 4 years for my winter setup. But I bought a set of 16" Mazda3 wheels for a really good price -- so I'm gonna be transferring my winter wheels off the steelies and onto the Mazda3 wheels.
I'm not sure when I'm actually going to have the tires changed over -- there's no particular hurry right now, after all -- but if you're interested, you can have my steelies afterwards.

Yep, they'll fit on a P5. It's kinda common around here for MSPs to run the stock P5 wheels as part of their winter/snow setup -- so yep, same lug pattern and all that.
You can still get a fairly 'tall' tire even on a 16". I believe I have a 50 series on mine -- it might even be a 55, I can't remember exactly, I'll have to go check -- but it's plenty of rubber for the winter.
Anyhoo, like I said, I probably won't have the steelies available for a few months. But if it's anything pressing, I can try to see how soon I can have my winter tires moved from the steelies to my Mazda3 wheels.
I'm located in Lancaster, PA by the way .. but I grew up in the northeast Philly suburbs and am back in the area once every couple months to visit friends and family, so we can prolly meet up at some point for you to pick up the steelies, so we don't even have to worry about shipping.

Cindy is right, I know of a couple of people who run a 55 profile on the stock P5 16's for winter use.
If you want to go even higher, look for some 14" wheels. I just recently had some 185/70/14's mounted on 14x5.5 steelies from a '93 Eclipse.

I have no problems driving to the Philly area to take them off your hands. Did you want any cash for them? Since we're still in the middle of summer, waiting a couple of months for them is not a problem so there's no rush.

I don't even know what to ask for them .. I tried to look up the cost of an average steel wheel, and I kept seeing stuff like $70 per wheel. That can't be right, can it? They're just steel wheels, for God's sake.
Well, since they were just going to take up space in your garage anyway, how about I give you $75 to take them off your hands. What do you say? That can buy you a lot of beers and shots.
