Dealer wants me to pay $275.00 to check brakes?

My wife took our car to the dealer for an oil change, and they tell her that they will do the 24,000 km check. The service guy tells my wife that they will take the brakes apart to ensure that they are good. He then tells my wife that it will cost $275.00 for the check. He also says that if we don't do it then my brakes won't be covered under warranty if something happens.

1) Has anyone ever heard of this before?
2) There is nothing wrong with my brakes?

I think this has to be a joke!

Contact Mazda's immediately. This is a scam for sure and the Mazda factory will not put up with it. Call the phone numbers in your owners manual and get in contact with your service representative.

Actually, if you look in the owners manual this is part of the recomended maintenance. However the 24KM inspection at my dealer is about $150 including the oil change.

Agree with the previous posters. Also check the warranty provisions. Does it say you HAVE to use a Mazda shop to do those checks or do you simply have to document that the check was done? If the latter, then try an independent shop...might be cheaper.
