Dumb AC question

Ok...I drove the 5 for the first time last week when my car was in the shop and I have to admit, the A/C was awful

What year? It does not get that hot where I live, but the 2008 2nd row one does very well, that is the only reason why wife swapped cars and I now drive the 06, as the little one is in the 2nd row :D

Maybe you can get a better fan than the cheapo one I have. Helped us survive the some 30 minutes traffic jam along I-15 by L.Vegas city. Some fender benders ahead.

We also had our windows tinted. and passengers brought their roll up/down sunshades for the side windows. A cooler with ice/sofdrinks and extra half-bag of ice. I was watching the temp. gauge closely and was ready to turn-off ac if needed. So far the MZ5 went through the ordeal without problems.

We had the fan dial set to Maximum and louvers pointed upwards for cool air to reach the 3rd row.

I agree, the AC on this car seems a bit undersized. It may work for a Mazda3 sedan, but the volume of air on the 5 is just too much for it. My wife's CR-V will freeze your nads off, but this car just makes them cool. Really my only complaint on this car so far.

Check the in cabin a/c filter. I just had the one in my 06 changed, and the a/c performance was noticeably better.

Where is this filter? Is it in the glovebox? I checked the manual and only found "filter" but its not in the usual place as other cars I've owned.

I have an '06 Touring in Florida. A/C has been the only complaint about this car. We've had it since new and tinted the windows within a week. Now we installed a remote start and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!Car is cool when you get into it, makes a huge difference. Also, the MAzda5 OEM sunshade is of great help keeping that HUGE dash cool. Other than that, we've driven it 48k miles without a single problem. Just add gas, change the oil and zoom-zoom.

How good is the AC on everybody's 5? Most of the time my wife drives the 5. She says that the AC doesn't work very well, that her Hyundai had better AC (or maybe vent placement). I've never had a car with AC, so I wouldn't know. When I drive it, it seems fine to me, it blows cold within minutes of start-up. Oh yeah, it's an 06 with just over 20K on it, and the windows are tinted now, too. I don't want to waste the time to take it in to the dealer, just to have them tell me there's nothing wrong with the car. Thank you.

I've found that the AC doesn't get as cold as the unit in my old MPV did. With the MPV my arm would be chilled even on very hot days; not so with the 5. Consequently, even at full AC settings the M5 doesn't seem to cool down as fast as the MPV did. I suspect Mazda just carried over the AC unit from the 3 series. Since the 5 has more glass and cabin space that AC unit may not be strong enough.
